After telling people after the JMU basketball game that Seth wasn't leaving, and the rumors were untrue, I think I'll wait until we see Danny on the sidelines in September until we say they're dumb. With what has happened before, I can't blame people for being a little on edge in a situation like this.

I doubt it happens...but in sports you never say never...I doubt he even gets an offer, but you can never say never

Rocco will be Liberty's head coach for the 2010 and 2011 seasons, at a minimum, you can book it.

Many sources are speculating on possible coaches, but this is ESPN's article about UVa's coaching search: http://espn.go.com/blog/ncfnation/post/ ... ach-begins

I remember rumors of David Dees leaving (and he confirmed it for me that it was true) while "insiders" said it wasn't, and while I trust SJ's position, mind$ and heart$ can change and we've $een that UVA doe$ po$$e$$ what it take$ to do that.

So, I heard that Rocco is highly interested about the job at UVA and will accept as soon as the offer shows up.

I have no doubt Rocco would take that job if offered. And I think he'd do great. But, really I think there's much better candidates out there. Heck there are arguably better candidates within the Groh coaching tree if Littlepage had the cajones to go that route. But he doesn't anyway. Long live Rocco!

London and Golden have done more in terms of accomplishments in the eyes of UVA. One has a national championship and the other has wins at the FBS level.

london is solid no doubt, but he is winning with clawson's players. he is a solid recruiter and has the national championship. rocco on the other hand was the recruiting coordinator at UVA for a bit if im not mistaken, but as i have said before i think they want to get away from anyone with groh ties. im sure london will interview and if they call rocco im sure he will too. in the end rocco will still be our coach.

I agree completely about London not doing it with his players yet. It just seems like UVA would want to go for a "name" and those two "names" are bigger.

london yes, golden no though his turnaround of temple is quite impressive. rocco is highly regarded in UVA Circles.

i agree they will go after a bigger name, thus i do not think anyone of them will get hired.

The Sabre is almost impossible to read, but a few of them have mentioned Holtz at ECU. That could be a good hire.

holtz would not be a bad hire at all. i will say even though it's a stretch i think there is something to the chris petersen rumors. heck you have to at least ask. whatever happens, littlepage has to hit as home run with this hire.

Am I wrong for thinking the Boise State job is a better job than UVA right now?

I agree that the Boise State job (forget the $$$) is a better situation than UVA. Petersen should would wait for an offer from one of the top 15 programs (not rankings) or a school where he specifically wants to coach. While a move to UVA would be a financial jump for him and his coaching staff, the ceiling appears to be lower in the Commonwealth.

of course it's a better job in boise, but maybe petersen wants a challenge. maybe he is frustrated about the BCS. Petersen is also frustrated about not being able to get his assistants more money. The ACC is also weak. you can turn around a program in the ACC quicker than you could in the SEC, Big 12, Big 10. im just saying, it may be far-fetched, but it could happen

Has Coach Rocco been asked these questions publicly? Given that the program had struggled for a few years before his arrival, I can understand if he was hired as the best coach available at that time and he may have viewed Liberty as a stepping stone. This is his first heading coaching job. I think it would be great if he were here until the day that he retired from football. I have never heard him make any public statement about how long he expects to be at Liberty.

I would hope that all current and future hires would be based on the coaches hoping to make Liberty their final stop. This does not mean that circumstances will not change and that they are unable to make a move to a different location. Liberty needs more people like Coach Carey Green. I hope Danny Rocco (and Dale Layer, too) is a coach that want to be at Liberty even if it means that he may pass up more $$$ at a different school.

I predict that Liberty alumni will not give generously as a whole or wholly to the athletic program until this type of commitment is displayed by the head football and basketball coaches.

a) I highly doubt you'll have Coach Rocco give any type of time table publicly. He's not going to make a Ritchie mistake.

b) You can't say that people won't give until we get assurances that coaches aren't going anywhere. We are what we are. Unless you're a top 20 program, you're going to have people moving around. I don't think it's fair to compare track or women's basketball or something like that to men's basketball or football. While I'd love for our coaches to stay forever, the truth is someone's going to be calling at some point with some money if they have success here. I would have no problem with a coach if they came here, built us into a championship level program, and then bettered their family by taking a bigger job. At that point, you hope that we get the Jim Tressel effect: they move on but don't forget where they got their start and give back after their success at the next level.

Anybody else smiling at the talk of Skip Holtz considering how close things came with us just a few years ago?

UVa is not a very attractive gig from a national perspective. But I agree with smoothie that it is much easier to run around a program in the ACC than the big boys.

Remember all the talk about how a name coach would get a hoops gig in Charlottesville? We all saw how that went down. I would expect a similar path for the AD in this hire as well.
