If Redd made it out of here without trouble then he should be able too. Vince was the one I was really worried about because he had some big time baggage when he came. If you have a strong culture in place with the leaders of the team already established a player like this can be huge. Just look at the Patriots they have such a culture that guys like Randy Moss and Corey Dillon were deemed cancers and they arrive in NE and you hear nothing of them. Obviously that's at a much different level and they have been consistent winners but I believe we are beginning to get to the point where we have that infrastructure in place where we can bring a talent in like this and surround him with other playmakers and positive role models that can take the emphasis off of the I and put it on the team.

I know we would want a JUCO transfer who didn't know there was anything wrong with taking a student's ID and buying $20 worth of items. Wow, are you guys trying to aspire to have the reputation of VTech? I'm all for second chances for people, but anyone wanting their program to have a good rep wouldn't want him at their own school

We've had worse, and had them turn out awesome. See, that's what happens when you've got things in place at a school that are able to actually change peoples' lives for the better ;)

seriously? $20 on a student ID? Thats why you wouldnt take him? Im sure a number of students at any college have done much more than this with another students ID.

And your absolutely right, VTech has its bad reputation because a couple of people have used other students ID to buy food. How on earth does that compute?

“At first I really didn’t see any harm in a student ID,” Williams said

Thats what I have the issue with. That's a lie as well. You don't just take someone else ID and buy food with it, and be dumb enough to think that it was right!

You obviously know nothing about some of the cultures here in America. There have been numerous instances of athletes coming into Liberty from a rough background and they didn't know that some of the things that they were doing weren't "right." They didn't know that speaking to adults and people in authority the way they were was disrespectful. They didn't know that the way that acted wasn't the way they were supposed to. You cannot tell me this doesn't happen because I've seen it first hand. I've seen the struggles that coaches have with those players as they try to reach them and break through 18-20 years of a culture that has been beaten into them.

"J'Courtney's time here has unfortunately been marked by issues which fall below the line of what is acceptable to us," Groh said. "Therefore, he will no longer be a member of our program."

Issues! $20 seems like it's one of the many issues to me. And are you seriously trying to preach to a VMI grad about having things in place to change people's lives? Haha! As long as you win I guess. Maybe you guys would like Amir Johnson as well. He would great addition to your basketball program!

I wasn't arguing why this thread was started. I was arguing your point where you didn't believe that he didn't think it was a big deal. I can see 100% how he didn't think it was a big deal. I disagree completely that it was a big deal but I can picture where he's coming from.

And don't take the holy high road like VMI is the only place that can change a person's life. Once again, I've seen it happen first hand with our football players. I've seen the difference that Christian coaches can make in the lives of an athlete who wasn't going down the right path. VMI fans like to look down their noses at Liberty for taking people with troubled pasts that allow us to improve our football team when the fact of the matter is they would kill for a winning football season much less a conference championship and Top 25 ranking. I know multiple players who would tell you're they are better men for having attended Liberty University, especially under Coach Rocco.

As for the Amir Johnson crack, I guarantee you that if someone did that type of stuff here on our football team he would no longer be on the team and would likely be out of school.

All I said was there was no need to preach that to me. I agree with the impact Christian coaches have on troubled kids and would love to see more of it, but again...how can he (and you) not see the issue with taking (stealing) a student's ID and buying stuff on it? What doesn't seem wrong about that? How can you 100% agree that stealing $20 worth of stuff isn't a real issue? And secondly, what I meant by the thread comment was that I would have no problem with you guys being excited about changing his life, but the thread was started because you want him to help your football program win, not about 180-ing his lifestyle.

One thing you are seriously wrong about is that VMI alumni and players would kill for a Top 25 season. Yes we would love that, but we wouldn't take troubled kids just so we would win.

I didn't say that I agreed with it or that I don't see it as a problem. I actually said that I thought it was a big deal. What I also said was that I could see from his perspective. Just because I disagreed with him doesn't mean I can't step back and look at things from his point of view. For example, I think Jesus is pretty awesome. I know other people that don't. I completely disagree with them but I can look at things from their point of view and see where they're coming from and why they think the way they do.

He obviously doesn't see the big deal as well as J'Courtney. I'm glad you do SuperJon. His other issues were apparently for drugs, and Bury Your Duke it sounds like he had some issues in HS as well judging by LU/LCA mom's comments. More power to you if you can bring him in, introduce him to Christ, and win in football. But just don't do it to win. That's what spoils a good program.

Obviously the guy isn't a saint. Obviously he's done some crap in his past and had to pay the price for decisions he made. With that being said, I trust Danny Rocco. I trust the decisions he makes. I trust his ability to judge not only football players but people as well. If Danny Rocco thinks this kid has changed, or thinks that he can make an impact in his life in a positive direction while coaching him, then I trust him. His track record speaks for itself.

Dr. Sheh wrote:Sorry if I missed it, but Williams would have just one year of eligibility left right?
He finished HS in 2006, so 2010 will be his 5th year since starting his NCAA career. Regardless of how much he has or hasn't played, it should be his last. 6th years are only granted for medical hardships, and that doesn't apply here.

Rocco stays. check the Rocco to Marshall thread. a Marshall guy who posted there calmed a lot of my fears.
this combined with that RB transfer is amazing. although stony brook should get a huge transfer boost from hofstra dropping football. next year is going to be awesome. i was at the SBU game and i think they are our new rival in football. the coastal thing seems kind of artificial these days.

EDIT: that running back transfer being keith payne.
