The NCAA has a moratorium in place to keep any more I-AAs from stepping up. A number of the more prominent CAA schools would be likely candidates to consider such a path. I wasn't speaking from any direct knowledge but rather postulating about what could be in Northeastern's mind.

This could be the first domino in a long list of moves. for example:

-Fordham is shopping for a new conference because they are phasing out of the PL its already official just a matter of time.
-CAA will be either shopping for a new team or looking to split.
-if the CAA splits you could see several NEC teams jump to the new "yankee" conference which could include teams like UNH hofstra, SBU, UMASS, Central conn, Bryant, Albany Monmouth, etc.
-Georgia st. may not be around very long in the CAA which also could cause some issues.
-If the CAA shops for another team SBU fits perfectly.
-The MEAC is talking about going back to the H bowl which is retarded but to each his own. if that happens SCSU would look to the big south. AWESOME.
-There has also been talk on AGS about a CAA split and making the CAA south just the CAA and adding teams like Liberty.

Lots of things could happen over the next two years and i haven't mentioned them all. the conferences could look WAY different in the next 3-4 years depending on what the CAA decides to do about it.

Campbell doesn't have the resources to field a scholarship team at this time. So the chances would be very slim. The cost of their scholarships are ridiculously high.

We have great facilities and a lot of money backing the program. I think the CAA would be open to this, especially if there is a new crack in the foundation. So many instant rivalries and established programs!!

Slow down there turbo. The caa needs a northern team that will be willing to move immediately. They would have to move a team from the south to the norh and none of the southern teams want or can afford that.
It's a great idea just probably not possible right now.

I think that the CAA is going to invite Fordham. They're A-10 in all sports but football (where they are in the Patriot League). Starting in 2010, Fordham is going to start allowing its football players to receive scholarships, and thus make them ineligible for Patriot League post-season play.

No, there are already schools like Villanova and Richmond in the conference who are football only.

No idea, to be honest. I would think a nine-team CAA would do away with divisions and just play an eight-game round robin. That's just my guess.

I would think UNH, Nova, and UMass would be unhappy with this as it takes 2 of their shorter trips in conference away. They may eventually want to bolt for a new conference that includes Fordham, SBU, Albany, etc. particularly if URI drops.

Stony Brook will be a likely destination for current Hofstra players that want:

-to stay close to home (school home, anyway)
-an opportunity for playing time (better than most of their CAA options)
-a shot at the playoffs

Their coaching staff is going to be recruiting hard and will emphasize Big South autobid in 2010 and head-to-head victory over the co-champion.

I wonder if there are any Hofstra players that would be a fit for Liberty?

I am all for Liberty joining as long as they can prove to be more than a one hit wonder. But as someone else said, competitive imbalance could be an issue. JMU, Nova, UR, and a good Liberty team would make the South ridiculous. The North has UNH and UMass. While the Nova-JMU games are always great. I could see Nova moving up to the North and Liberty replacing them and then if GSU joins put GSU in the South and move Towson up North. Since both teams are bad I don't really see there being an issue in regards to competitiveness. Or maybe do something with UDel? I don't know there are a couple different options that could be looked at.
