ToTheLeft wrote:"Told you so" negative comments right after a big loss are nothing but an attempt to troll, however tongue in cheek they may be. I expect that from opposing fans, not our own. It's one thing to be frustrated, it's another to gloat in your prediction of LU failure, again, however tongue in cheek it may be. You're absolutely correct in your assessment, but to expect us to clap for your negative predictions is having you head in the sand.
Our teams loss and your poor comprehension of someone's comment is a poor reason to show your rear. Move on.

Wow, this makes me realize that the livelihood of a 40-something adult with a family so often lies within the hands of 18-22 year-olds. Scary thought! I don't envy college coaches in that regard...

Silver Lining: Does this loss mean any talk of Rocco to UVA may now cease?

It was one of the best college football games I've ever been at. It ranks right up there with the W&M game of 07 in terms of competitiveness, comebacks, drama, etc.
Great point. I was trying to think what was the last game I went to that was that thrilling. That WM game definitely ranks up there. Would be nice to come out on the other side of one of these games though.

A bit of irony- Wasn't Lee the one who stopped their back on a 3rd and 6 to get us the ball back for the last TD drive?

And I agree. We're a top 25 team. Top 25 teams don't win every game. Especially on the road on senior day. That's a tough place to go win.
It was a sarcastic comment. I dont agree with the top 25 deal though. Theres nothing that says top 25 on our resume. I dont know if Im disappointed with that, either.

Not sure but it wouldn't surprise me. Kujuan Lee is a great DB. He's made so many plays (and interceptions) jumping routes this year. It just sucks that this one time he got burned by it.

As a former football alumni from coach Sam era, I have to say how pleased I was by the effort of LU today. We hung in there and kept fighting. A couple of thoughts:

1. I really believed if we won today we would be in the playoffs. Not to be....

2. I am surprised that we didn't have this happen to us sooner. We have relatively a young team and with a young team comes inconsistency. To Tommy Beechers credit, I think he helped stabalize the ship at times when some of our guys struggled. I don't agree that SB was any better than us, I just believe they played today above their normal level and we didn't respond to it.

3. We need to rethink our scheduling now that we have an auto-bid. Teams need to be scheduled so that we come into Big South play at a much higher level. While a NCC is a viable FCS opponent, we also need to fill the rest of our OOC schedule with teams that are from other auto-bid conf. If we are truly going to play for a national championship, we must design our schedule in a way that the Big South is the easy part of the schedule.

4. Lastly, while we lost, I enjoyed being a part of Liberty football again. It was embarassing pre-Rocco. This year i have reconnected with the program. My father-in-law and I took the train up today and enjoyed probably the best college game I have seen this fall. Looking forward to opening day 2010 when we are opening our new stadium!!! Go Flames.

Just starting to read through this. What makes you think Stony Brook is only getting better? They lost 22 seniors today, including the guy who ran for 160+ yards on us. Yes, they bring back Gowens, but it's not like we lost to a team full of freshmen. They'll be good, but losing 22 seniors is tough on anyone.
According to my count LU loses 22 seniors as well.

Well worded opening sentence from Libertyflames.com:
Both teams managed to find the end zone during the last minute of the game, but homestanding Stony Brook was able to score last, claiming a 36-33 back-and-forth battle over Liberty, Saturday afternoon, at LaValle Stadium.

I think it is sad that we lost and couldn't pull away with a W, but honestly and truly it's not like we were going to get in the playoffs anyway...stupid selection committee!!

We may but also look at how many underclassmen we have coming back and also how many guys that contributed coming back next year. Not saying we will roll everybody (especially since the Big South championship means 10,000 times more next year than it did this year) but the cupboard will not be bare.

I just want to know why we weren't in a prevent defense? That's my question. 55 second left in the game and the ball around the 20 and they need a TD to win. Why not run the prevent defense? I don't understand this...

Well you cant always sit back and let them pick you apart. There was enough time left to where you cant really just give them 8-15 yards a play. That's the arguement at least. In that situation each coach has a different philosophy and feeling about what they need to run in this situation. Of course the breakdown had less to do with the number of blitzers we had, and much more to do with the blown coverage and poor open field tackling.

Finally a chance for me to mouth off.

Thx to SJ for the text updates all afternoon- I was tied up at a family function where I had to sit quietly, and went back and forth- from nauseous to elated- every time I got the scores.

I really thought Danny would work his "halftime magic" in the locker room, but it was not to be. Again, I didn't see or hear ANY of the game, but could tell from the rapid score changes that our "D" was just getting hammered.

Our secondary has made me nervous for the last 3 years, even with the great #24 back there, so thats really nothing out of the ordinary. We do tend to give up yardage- and the better teams always seem to be able to gameplan us. Usually the coaching staff has an answer, but it seems every year we have a game like this.

All that said, congrats to the seniors and thanks for 4 great years. I remember a season not too long ago where UConn smoked us 59-zip and we won all of 1 game all year (vs. a DII). There are a couple thousand kids at LU who have NEVER SAT THRU A LOSING SEASON! For us oldhags, that's an amazing thought. You just can't say enough about what Coach Rocco has done for the culture of FB here at LU. To go into every game EXPECTING to win is just incredible. To go into each season EXPECTING to compete for, if not WIN, a league title, is more so.

This Thursday: add this guy to your "I'm Thankful For..." list

I’m brand spanking new to the board and in the MBA online program at Liberty, but I wanted to say that I was at the Stony Brook game with my wife and even thought it was exciting from beginning to end, the final outcome was gut wrenching to watch. My personal observations of the game were that:
1) Stony Brook was unbelievably amped up and ready to play the spoiler – I was sitting directly behind their bench and the head coach kept them “lit” the entire game.
2) The Sea-Hags, I mean Sea -Wolves were getting a nice dose of home cooking, but there’s no excuse for the team to not overcome the bad calls going against them.
3) Defense provided no containment on the ends resulting in big pays by the running backs
4) Receivers – I think everyone (Freddy, BJ, Chris, Mike) got touches but they would have done more if the passing was better
5) Run game – was not strong, however the quarterbacks (Tommy, Mike) were great.
6) Beecher – I feel for the kid because he wanted to win (he was crying hard after they prayed and were exiting the field) but he lacked the “it” factor to get the job done that day
7) Mike Brown – The kid is a beast!! To see him on MASN or the Big South is one thing, but up close is amazing.
8)Chris Rocco came to play, Larry Claiborne didn’t (prevent D means deeper than the deepest) …should have been Vinson back there.
9) Liberty cheering section blew away the entire Stony crowd…they need help

10) Future for the team – Very bright, the returning class is young and deep and will make some noise in the playoffs next year for sure.

That wasn't Claiborne who missed that play. It was Kajuan Lee, and before you take a shot at Lee - he was one of the best, if not our best, corners all season.
