I guarantee you that tomorrow night's game won't be a repeat of Tuesday. We will not get handled that way again this year even with the stout schedule in front of us.

You coach to your strengths. Right now, our strength is our guard play.
I understand that, but also as a coach you have to have a long term vision for the program and if your a post oriented coach and thats what you know best, than you need to change it up. We do have the players that can run a post oriented offense. We have Mcmasters, Burrus, Baker, Vander Pol and Konan who are all able to fit into the center and the power forward position. That is 5 players who i believe can be great inside players for us in the future.

None of those guys are true inside players. Not one of them is comfortable with their back to the basket. CM and TB would rather be playing on the wing, Konan and Burrus have zero offensive game at this point and JVP can't get on the floor.
Layer is adapting his philosophy to match the players he has. We're not going to go from a 5-guard offense to a traditional one overnight. We don't have the players to match. Coach didn't exactly inherit a team that was setup for success.
You really think Konan and Burrus have zero offensive game at this point? Have you been watching the same games as i have? Konan was not afraid of shooting inside against Clemson big men, he had that great layup inside and he got foul doing so. If you look at the stats on Burrus, he has scored every game hes been put into.He is very physical and is not afraid to slam the ball in somebody face. Your just assuming that they have no talent, you dont really know. I believe you will start to see Layer playing Burrus and Konan more, especially when we play radfords talented big men.

Konan and Burrus, right now, are phenomenal athletes but average basketball players. They have potential to get better but right now, they are what they are. That doesn't mean they can't be effective. They'll be able to out-athlete people at times and their athletic ability will make up for some of their negatives, but they're not ready for significant minutes. They'll get there, but they're freshmen.

Any D1 player can make a layup. Let's not confuse hustle points with having the ability to create something for themselves. At this point, Burrus has played a total of 10 minutes in 3 games...and with our limited size as it is, if he can't find the court now--obviously Layer feels like he can't help us right now. Konan has taken 6 shots in 3 games...he's not exactly looking for his offense.

I'm not assuming they have no talent. If they didn't have talent, they would be playing at Lynchburg College. What I'm saying is, right now, they cannot run Layer's system. They play a different type of game.

You can't put square pegs in round holes and this holds true here.

I don't think the margin will be nearly as large, even though ODU may actually be capable of giving Clemson a good game. The Tiger's style of full court pressing for 40 minutes lends itself to bigger blowouts against overmatched opponents. There are probably lots of teams who could compete with Clemson, or even beat them, who wouldn't necessarily beat us by 40.

We'll be playing our 3rd game in 5 days (with another come Saturday). We will not press you guys all day like Clemson and we won't beat you by 40.

Well that's good to hear, Clemson's was ridiculous... I mean how do you do a full court press up by thirty points... that just lacks class...

It was not classless. It was about getting their younger players legitimate playing time so that when they get to the ACC, they'll have some depth. It was good coaching. They called off the dogs after getting their bench some experience.

Yes I understand that but they are up by 30 points, on national television mind you... We knew we were gonna loose but getting it where we can't even get the ball out, come on? Your probably right about play a very stout ACC, and getting the younger players ready and all but it still sucked.

On the upside at least we're not UNC-Ashville

Heard quite a few folks at our Longwood game saying they are planning on making the trip tomorrow.

Really looking forward to the matchup, and none of us consider the Clemson debacle as what to expect tomorrow evening.

Keep an eye on our #24 Bazemore. He has freakish ups, and can be quite entertaining.

And how is it any different than the butt whipping you guys put on Southern Virginia?

Clemson is actually coached by an ODU alum and ex ODU head coach Oliver Purnell.

I don't think he was necessarily running up the score, as someone stated, he was getting his young guys experience in their system.

ODU didn't run up the score on Longwood, our reserves were just better and outscored Longwood's guys.

With that said, I think you guys will give us a much better showing, but I still am looking for ODU to win by double digits.

Something along the lines of 77-58, anything around there will do.

We haven't had a team stay within 30 of us yet. Unfortunately for you guys, I am not sure I see anyone on your roster who will be able to stop Gerald Lee. He is a monster inside and should be able to dominate along with Hassell and Finney on the front line.

I think Sanders is a very good player and enjoy watching the kid ball.

Looking forward to the game.

You know, the sad part for Liberty is that most of the turnovers came not due to the full-court press, but because of shoddy ballhandling and off-ball movement in the half-court. Clemson is a pressure team, and the Tigers will apply man pressure in the half court at all times. It's what they do. And it's what the bench players need to learn to do.

And Purnell is as far from classless as you can get. One of the really good men in the profession.

Liberty wins by 40, Sanders nails 7 3's, and Coach Layer is carried off the court by the players and fans that rush the court.......

No wait, that was a dream that I had last night.

I think that gerald lee will tear us up in the post but if we can hold down the perimeter like we have been unable to do in the past games this season i.e. GMU and Clemson I thnk we can make it a close game

Good luck tonight. Hopefully you will do a better job of representing the Big South than some other schools which I will not mention.

And I expected you guys to get a little more out of ODU's coach than you did on here. You gotta take advantage of that! Find out a few inbounds plays or something.
