The team pulled up barely 15 minutes before they had to be on the court for warm-ups - just enough time to change and get out there. (By contrast, Clemson was on the Vines Center floor at 8:00am yesterday.) Biedenbach stood up from his seat less than 5 times the entire first half!
JK37- You do realize that there is a multi-million dollar rock slide on Interstate 40 just west of Asheville. It's been declared a federal emergency and did in fact play a huge part in our ability to travel as we normally would from Asheville to Knoxville (typically a 2 hour trip)- the guys also had to change their pre-game plans from eating in Johnson City at a restaraunt to grabbing quicker food in route due to increased traffic and accident delays on the I-26/I-81 detour, the only other reasonable travel route from here to there..
If you're going to report- please get all of the facts prior to bashing the coaches for this performance- lots of things went wrong yesterday, I do question why we're not making substitutions to get folks motivated even in a blow out game because of the message the rest of team may get from that. But I don't disagree that our starters should have played later in this game to regain confidence and move on... All teams play guarantee games, we lost to UT by 18 last year and played a really good and sound game.. last night it's hard to balme the coaches for all of the 29 TOs- it's hard for the coaches to shoot the ball and make shots from the bench, so at some point it's up to the players to play mentally tougher through adversity (they tucked tail quite frankly and we laid an egg last night)..
Our biggest problem is UNCA has no floor leader right now- LU struggled with that last year early before Sanders stepped up.. Sean Smith & John Williams don't have the personalities to be vocal leaders and JP Primm seems to be more focused on scoring than running this team right now.. 2 games in isn't quite the coaches fault yet- especially for the most tenured coach in the Big South.. Poor performance absolutely - players and coaches alike, but not quite the gold digging scenario you portray..
In 1996-97 we got beat by Kansas 105-73 and by Kentucky 105-51 (& beat South Carolina who won the SEC that year)…We also won the Big South Regular Season Championship that year.. Again, let’s measure this team by their response to adversity not just one really bad game..
