I'm trying to think of some positives in the long run to that entire event but I'm having trouble. Couldn't have been good for their confidence. They say any publicity is good publicity but that was just embarrassing national exposure. We had a huge crowd on hand to form their opinions of this team/program based on the worst game in a long time. Gonna be tough to get people to come now. Anybody got anything?

Carter had a decent game off the bench: 2 great blocks and a dunk!

at this level (BS Conf) I think we'll still draw the kid that doesn't get a roster spot on a top 25 team, because he can still get a SHOT at playing the big boys on TV once in a while.

And come March- it doesn't matter what you did in November anyway if you win the conf tourney

No, none of that made me feel any better

yeah, I'm not looking for positives that happened in the game. Sure there's some of those. But whether or not we would be better off not having played that game.

Once again blame Ritchie. He was the one that set the first two weeks of this schedule up.

Tyler Baker was horrible today. Absolutely zero effort on defense other than one block at the end. Carter needs to be our main big guy

Do you think if Barber or Layer had a choice they would have turned down an ESPN game? Or an ACC team at home? Doubtful.

Obviously things didn't go down the way we had planned when we schedule this game. Then again, when we scheduled this game we still had most of our roster from last season. This was basically like most games our Big South foes load up on every year to fund their athletic departments. The only difference is that we didn't have to travel and we didn't get a guarantee check.

Granted, the result was definitely not what you guys wanted, but the opportunities to get an ACC team (and a ranked one at that) to come to your house are few and far between...heck, I'm still waiting for that at Winthrop (Wake w/ Tim Duncan came a year or two before I go there...nothing since). You never want to pass up an opportunity to have bigger programs play you at home.

RMK did not improve our lot, pretty obvious that he left the program in bad shape, & it is fair to say in hindsight what some saw in foresight, that this was a very bad hire.

(p.s. While RMK was here, I did not bash him, but his track record was prophetic, and some of those left in his wake from earlier trips saw it coming.)

Anyway, I think Coach Layer will do a fine job, but it's not easy to win.
This loss won't hurt us - it just tells a little bit about where we are right now.

Well, there isn't much to be positive about when you lose by 40 and you only score 39. The atmosphere at the game was a lot of fun, but I have a feeling that due to this game a lot of students won't show up to more Bball games. As for the game? We got dominated plain and simple. No one really had a good game aside from Carter. He had some nasty blocks! I guess we can call this a "learning experience"

This is exactly what I worry about. The real basketball fans will show up, but we need to get the casual fans out to the games. Games like today's won't do that.

I thought I was a worrier but I'm not worried at all...the crowd really had a great time and we played a TOP 25 TEAM IN THE COUNTRY not in D-1AA but in the nation....I think they understand that...they were excited all throughout the game and I think they appreciated the effort from some of the guys for 40 minutes

This was great and you never want to pass up on this....now you can go into the living room of an athlete show them a game on ESPN to a capacity crowd and show them you losing and say "your the one that can change this outcome on national TV"

Thats an easy sell....the hard ones are the small gyms with no excitement and a bad team. Right now we dont even have a bad team, we're just young.....this was great

and Carter is going to be great

please get over mckay manson..seriously we all know you cant stand the guy, but geez let it go my friend. as for the question LUconn posed, i do not see where it hurt other than people seeing that are nto very good. if you look at the other games on ESPN our crowd was great, our arena was filled, we just stunk up the joint. no AD in their right mind would have turned down that game. we had plenty of chances to make the game respectable and we did not. oh well, its over and we move on.

I think it might have crippled us.

ESPN highlights are ridiculous and almost just the commentators making fun of us.

I think LUCONN's first post is very accurate. There was probably many people at this game that only came because they had class off. Those people will never, and I want to say again, will never come back to a game.

And yes, I am not so happy at Ritchie right now either.

To add to this, look at the schools they showed this morning. They looked like high school gyms and weren't even filled. We filled our arena to over capacity. That alone makes for a great showing.

I think it's a positive to get that many students in the Vines, even though we played poorly. It looked to me like they were having a good time, and sometimes that's as important to getting them back as what the team does. If a student decides to never attend another game based on one bad performance against a ranked ACC team, they deserve their fate of missing out on an important part of their college experience.
