What did the sign say in the corner? Something about:

Jim ... it used the word "perfidy," which I am not embarrassed to admit that I had to look up.

According to dictionary.com, perfidy means:

1. deliberate breach of faith or trust; faithlessness; treachery: perfidy that goes unpunished.
2. an act or instance of faithlessness or treachery.

Anyway, here's the web story:

http://www2.newsadvance.com/lna/sports/ ... -39/21490/

I'll have a follow-up in tomorrow's paper.

Off to football ...

Personally, I think we played like the team we are -- a team that relied on two players for offense last season, both of whom are gone. I'd rather remember the team that showed up at George Mason, and use that as an example of how the season will go. This early, it's hard to tell. Too many turnovers, too many missed shots.

ALAFlamesFan wrote:1. Really had hoped "KO" was gone for good. :-( We could have used Kyle in this game.
2. McMasters is going to be a really solid player for us in a year or two. The more I see him play the more excited I get.
3. Crowd was GREAT! I think it showed a glimpse of what playing in the Vines was like back in the early 90's. I hope we can build off that to get back to that kind of environment on a more consistant basis. Recruits will want to come and play for that type of crowd/fan base.
4. We are REALLY young and it showed in our composure this game. Clearly they have superior talent but if we had just played an average game instead of a total meltdown at times we would have made it more respectable.
5. Jesse has not played to the level he was at last year yet this season in the two games that have mattered. SVU doesn't count. Some of that is clearly the D but his decision making has regressed. It seems like he is pushing... I know he will come around, just saying...
6. We are lacking a player that can consistantly create his own shot. I think Gordon and Perez show the most potential to develop into this kind of player for us.
7. Recruiting will be VERY IMPORTANT for us the next couple of years. We have several pieces we can work with now but one or two more key guys and another year or two of maturity will make us the type of team we all long for us to be.
1. Bright Spot, i think Kyle will be back for ODU, saw him head into the weight room after coming out of the locker room
2. Carter is one of our jewels right now, give him a little more time and hopefully put some more muscle and weight on him and he will be dangerous
3. Half the crowd would have left at halftime, so unless we plan on locking the doors until the end every game don't expect that much
4. We are really young i agree with this statement, I think this is the trial and hopefully by conference play we have the kinks worked out
5. Jesse hustled more then anyone today.. it just seems like he has regressed as a leader on the court (i can remember turning to TBGBG and saying where is Jesse right now)
6. I think given more time Anderson will also be able to consistently create
7. We had 2 big signings over the weekend with Stephen and JC

also on a side note

I think that yes Carter and TB should be on the floor together at the same time, but really with Carter and Konan on the floor together i think its better. Konan is still raw dont get me wrong, but what he lacks in offense he makes up for by going and banging with guys a good 4 to 5 inches taller then him. He is a physical beast, and that is something no one else on the team does (maybe Antwan but he hasnt really played enough yet to know)
give Konan some time to develop more and he could be a great 4 man (though this would mean Kyle actually having to play 3 and guard 3 on defense)

Most of us consider this a rebuilding year correct? Then why start kyle Ohman? He is a senior and he doesnt fit into the future of LU basketball. Kyle Ohman is the most emotional player on the team. When he starts to get angry and upset it hurts his play and the rest of the team. Yes, when hes on fire he does help the team with his scoring. But why depend on his scoring during a rebuilding year? We need to look towards the future of LU basketball. I wish i had some game tape of Coach Layers years at Colorado State, because i really doubt that he ran a guard oriented Offense. Coach Layer believes in post play. Why not have a traditional Offense with a Power Forward and a center. Im afraid that Layer is still running the Ritchie Mckay Offense and Without Seth Curry and Anthony Smith its not going to work. Right now to win this conference we have to beat Radford. Radford has a post oriented offense and they are recruiting solid post players.
I reccomend are Starting Lineup to be PG Jessie Sanders-Solid Ball handler,Sophomore
SG Chris Perez- can score inside outside,Freshmen
SF Patrick Konan- Can score inside, Freshmen
PF Antwan Burrus- Physical Post Player- Freshmen
C Mcmasters- Needs to become a inside scorer,Freshmen
Tyler Baker Would have been Great maybe, if he would not have been constantly injured and if he had gotten more playing time in the past. But Once again we need to Rebuild this year for the future and Tyler Baker is a Senior.

Did we? You would think if these were done then we would have gotten some kind of press release by now. It is not like our SID's to sit on news like this for several days.

I am not saying they won't eventually come in ...

I told yall Carter was going to be solid! He really will be just give it time. Konan is going to be solid too....he's a poor man's Floyd....TBGBG really disappointed me...I really thought he'd have his game where he wanted it being now that he's 30 and all

We have 3 or 4 guys who can help us win on this level that aren't seniors:

Jesse
Carter
ummm...

Ok scratch that we have 2.

The future looks extremely dark.

I miss the RD days.

Don't jump off a bridge or anything. That post was one of the dumber ones you've ever said. We've got a lot more than just two guys.

I just don't see it.

Minaya hasn't shown anything.

Evan Gordon has shown flashes, but he's still got a long ways to go.

Perez is the same as Gordon.

Don't get me started on JA.

Konan looked decent, but like someone said the other day he's like Rell Porter. We don't need a Rell Porter on this team we need someone who can score.

Burrus can't even get on the court.

JVP is being redshirted so he's not any better than who we have.

Bill Weaver can't get on the court.

I love Johnny but he is just not good enough to help us win on this level.

We need Burrus to play inside as a power forward with Mcmasters. This provide us with two inside rebounders and inside scoring threats

We've played THREE games. THREE. We were ridiculusly spoiled with Curry. We can't expect every freshman in the country to come in and score 20 a game. It's going to take time.

Minaya hasn't played in over a year. Gordon and Perez are freshman. TB (and I really hate TB's game) played solid defense on guys that had 20-30 lbs. on him. McMasters showed some flash today. Konan played well.

Jesse has a lot more responsbility than he did last year. He's going to take some time to adjust, too.

We've been begging fpr years to have a more challenging OOC schedule. Well, we've got it. It's only going to help these guys in the long run. We're certainly not going to face anyone with the talent of a Clemson in-conference.

Take a breath, realize this is a brand new team and that we're going to go through some growing pains.

well my thoughts from the game:

1. great crowd. but did i hear LU students doing the "hey you suck" chant. i could not make it out clearly from the baptist side, but if so...not good. let's not stoop to being maryland fans.
2. minaya....awful. has not shown anything
3. perez and gordon will get better they are freshmen
4. to me jesse looked out of control a lot today
5. KO....quit crying about not getting calls and work harder to get open looks
6. we lack a soild socring threat. we had plenty of chances to score, but could not knock down a jumper.
7. mcmasters looks very good defensively. the hair and socks?? interesting
8. our defense is awful at this point

i think i would go with konan, mc masters, baker and sanders for sure. the last spot??? who knows. im going to reserve judgement on these guys since were were playing a top 25 team, but this could be a long year. we simply had too many turnovers and rushed too many shots and could not buy a bucket. props to clemson for their good shooting and pressure defense. we could not handle them at all.

PS. bury your duke, UVA has never played in the vines center. the two times we beat them were in charlottesville.

Gordon is a little too reckless w/ his handling. Perez is hesistant, passes up alot of shots in which i think he can hit. Konan is raw and like someone said about Carter, add some more pounds he could be a force. You could see the potential.

i also liked what i saw from Stephene.
Jesse tried one too many passes
Minaya, Baker, Ohman, JA.....ugh

Team is very young and like Branch said we need to create a identity, some who will create his own shot. It will take some time but we'll be good.

Layer is bringing in some studs w/ Baird, JCS w/ the possibility of Bowen. We have a verbal from Canty, whose recruiting is starting to heat up from big schools.

There were some serious basketball 101 things that I was not happy about today (I mean can you make a simple station to station pass for cryin out loud)...but my issue with manson here is that to him it seems everything is McKay's fault...we shot 30.4 percent from the floor...that wouldnt even cut it against Southern VA (even if we still won by 30). and we had 28 turnovers (not 30 but who's counting)...we hammer the women for turning the ball over that much so its pretty fair to say that is inexcusable. This was one point off of our lowest point total at home EVER (38 vs College of Charleston January 26, 1991) this probably is top 5 lowest percentage for a game overall too...in short this was a bad game...these are very new guys so lets hope they can at least bounce back as we only have a couple days before the next game and then we get to face another very good team in Notre Dame on Sunday.
