LeBron said tonight that he's changing his number next year. His reason was that he doesn't think anyone should wear the number 23 anymore and that the NBA should retire it in honor of Michael Jordan.

What do you guys think about retiring the number?

The Miami Heat have already retire Jordan's #23. Lebron is going to play in Miami next year alongside one of his best friend's Dwayne Wade.

That's the first thing I thought of when I heard that Lebron said that...and as a Heat fan, I would fully support that decision for him to come to Miami.

LeBron says "I'm Changing My Number" = NBA saying "if you're staying in Cleveland, you're going to have to find a way we can sell more LeBron jerseys"

How much of that does he make up b/c of Florida's less-oppressive income tax?

I don’t see how that could be the case. 12 of the 15 players Miami has under contract become a free agent at the end of this season. I’ll be the first to admit I don’t fully understand the NBA salary cap and don’t care to, but I’d think with that many free agents they could sign Wade and Lebron. Put those 2 with the 3 they already have under contract (Beasley, Cook and James Jones), and they’d be the frontrunners for the NBA championship in 2011.

It really all depends with player options what they can do and with NBA salary it increases every year a little bit for most players. I will say though you put together a situation like that and a couple of those other Free-Agent all stars will take a cut to play there a couple years and win that ring. A lot of these guys want that more than anything else. Now with that being said I dont know how much LeBron would make nor do I know what their cap situation could be cause none of those guys will sign for the league min of 420,000 I know that.

The way the NBA salary cap is, if you are a free agent and stay with your current team and get a max contract, that max contract is 5 years for $120 million.

If you are a free agent and go to another team and get a max contract, that max contract is 5 years for $90 million.

Ok, I get what you're saying. If Lebron goes anywhere other than staying in Cleveland, he'd take a $30 mil paycut.

It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

I always thought it was stupid of him to take that number in the first place.
