Delaware should lose to both their opponents, we only need one loss.
Weber State could lose either of their two games.

Granted it's 4 teams, but the list of team ahead of Liberty was MUCH larger 2 weeks ago.

I'll add to Schfourteenteen's list. Next week will really make this a lot simpler.

Northern Arizona could win their last two against Weber State and Eastern Washington giving them 7 D1 wins including wins against Southern Utah, Weber St., EWU, and Montana St. Would that be enough to get them in? I wouldn't want to take a chance.

Southland Conference - Could they get 3 teams into the playoffs? I doubt it. Logic says no, but I would not want to give the committee a chance to consider it. Of the four teams that are 4-1 in the Southland, SE Louisiana is not eligible for an at-large birth. If Stephen F. Austin beats SELA this weekend, it ends this possibility.

I think there is one spot that is on the table right now. 12-15 appear to be solid unless there is a season ending collapse.

OK, here is the scenario that will make Liberty a lock for the playoffs without needing special consideration from the committee. Instead of spending Sunday afternoon discussing why we think we should be in the playoffs, it will be a discussion of where will we play in the first round. (DISCLAIMER: This is possible, but not likely)

Part 1 (Southland - no second team eligible for at-large birth)
Stephen F. Austin defeats SELA & Northwestern State to win the Southland
McNeese State loses to Texas State & loses to Central Arkansas (6 D1 wins - ELIMINATED)
Texas State defeats McNeese State and loses to Sam Houston State (6 D1 wins - ELIMINATED)

Part 2 (Big Sky - no second team eligible for at-large birth)
Montana State beats Sacramento State and loses to Montana (6 D1 wins - ELIMINATED)
Eastern Washington loses to Southern Utah and defeats Northern Arizona (6 D1 wins - ELIMINATED)

One-bid conferences include the MEAC (South Carolina State), the Patriot (Lafayette or Holy Cross - who play this weekend to decide things) and probably the OVC (Eastern Illinois, though Jacksonville State might have an argument). Liberty is again in the mix of things, but the Big South doesn't have an autobid and the Flames were overlooked last year when they deserved a shot. The committee is likely to pass on them again, unless they move up a few notches in the polls.

I see 14 locked positions, with the other two going to a second Big Sky team, a third MVC team, a fifth CAA team, a small possibility of a second OVC team or Liberty. Thats 4-5 teams with an argument for just a couple spots. It'll be exciting to see how things shake out this weekend and if the picture clears up a little bit.

Even though I strongly believe we need some help even if we win out, I do believe it has a very good chance of happening. Is this your definition of Homer? I think we all cheer for our team, it's just a matter of glass half full or half empty. I'm a wait and see kind of guy too, but I thought message boards were a place to discuss what you think my happen and yes what you would like to happen.

The writer is saying the same things that most posters on this site are saying. Liberty is sitting on the outside right now. They're close, but they're not in. Unless there is a collapse (two losses) by UNI, they will be selected. Most qualified teams with 7 D1 wins from the Big Sky (Eastern Washington, Northern Arizona, Washington State, Weber State) and CAA (Delaware, Massachusetts) will have an edge over Liberty. Each of those teams MUST win their remaining two games to get to 7. Can they do it? Liberty might get the nod over one of the Big Sky teams with 7 wins, but it shouldn't be expected.

Even though I am biased because I played on last year's team you are right that loss to Presby KILLED US! However, someone said that this year's Lafayette win is better than the Elon win.. I think not. Elon was ranked 12/14 at the time and had just had a nail biter against Appy State. Elon's defense was ALOT better than Lafayette's and dont even try to compare Lafayette's offense with Riddle, Hudgins and Co. If the Flames can make it in this year that would be AWESOME and I will be looking for a plane ticket. Go Flames!

Hypothetically, if Lafayette wins the conference and we had lost to Presby again this year, the Lafayette win would not have meant anything more than the Elon victory last year. It's the Presby factor. Unfortunately, a great win against a good Elon team last year will fade (except the memories held by the team members and a few fans) away because of the Presby game.

They won't. Either way there will be an automatically bid from the patriot league. If Holy Cross wins, they get in and Laffy is not going to make the playoffs. If Laffy wins, they make it and Holy Cross is left out of the field. So laffy winning against Holy Cross helps our win against them look better.

I think we should all take a page from Brian Billick's handbook and ban the word of 'playoffs' during the season. We still have two games left.

(Of course, after Billick banned 'playoffs', many players began calling the postseason 'festivus'... Which isn't a bad idea. Knowing Liberty fans, there certainly would be no shortage of complaints during the 'Airing of Grievances' period.)
