I would be all about adding Campbell... but I think we should save that bullet in case PC bails, or SB bails. I don't think Campbell is in any hurry to move up, anyways.

Yeah, as Jon said, I was just poking fun at the PL. Butler at 8-0 was in the bottom 30 of the Sagarin Rankings because they play like 3 DIII games and then PL teams... they have the worst SOS known to mankind.

The Pioneer is non-scholarship. It's DIII football for Division I schools.

What is the scholarship requirement for the Big South Conference?

Games against the Pioneer teams still count as D1 games so why would you call it D3? I understand that D3 can not offer athletic scholarships, but how does that relate to the Pioneer?

Pioneer schools do not offer them either. Even though they are FCS.

There used to be a "trend" of teams with DI athletics wanting football, but not wanting to pay the huge bill for it so they would play DI athletics but DIII football. A while back the NCAA made a rule that all sports had to be Division I so that's where these leagues came from. They're glorified DIII for that reason. Yes, they count as DI wins but they are looked down upon big time.

Isn't VMI's situation a little different? They don't really do the whole "Athletic Scholarship" thing... do they?

I'm pretty sure their's are legit scholarships. They're required to have a certain amount of in-state students but I think it's scholarship.

Campbell is re-joining the Big South. Football is not currently scheduled to move to the Big South. Does anyone know if they are they considering (unofficially) the move to the Big South for football? Their football program is weak and has struggled in the Pioneer League, but it would add another D1 league game without a transition period. To return the topic back to PC, the Blue Hose would have a conference foe that would allow them to be competitive.

Back to the original question, does anyone know if Campbell is considering (unofficially) the move to the Big South for football?

SBU is up to the full 63 this season, according to Priore.

GWU is in the mid-50s and will always be because they don't have the money to fund 63.

VMI is also in the mid-50s.

PC is still a few years away from 63, but that's what the transition period is for.

As far as I know, CCU and CSU are both up to 63.
