Word is, Bee is resigning effective February 1, 2010. He was AD for 6 years, a graduate of PC and West Point. He will take a job at Coastal College of Georgia as well as work with athletic directing (i think thats the correct name of the college).

What was PC like before you went to DI? Did things seem more stable?

Things have been stable in all of our other programs for a while (pre D1 and in the transition), except for football and now the ADs position. Womens bball had a run of some controversy, but most everything else has been stable (except for lacrosse, mainly men's)

I live 300 miles away and I don't have too many connections at high levels of the athletics department. I do know that many alumni, former athletes, and donors don't like the guy and haven't been a fan of him for a long time. I have also heard that Carlton's micromanaging and...abrasive...personality was one of the real reasons that Bentley left, reasons that, for obvious reasons, weren't blurted out on the press release. I don't know what to think and I'm not saying that I know the things I've been told are gospel. I will say that when I was a student, he was always very nice to me personally. However, I didn't have to work with him on a daily basis, nor was I an athlete.

Hypothetically speaking, could a school having just made the move to D-I, and having made some of the greater financial commitments necessary to be at that level, possess a governing body that isn't so happy with the short-term results?

Example: Birmingham-Southern.

And if said school made a drastic move back to their previous division, what might be the effect upon, say, their D-I conference's impending auto-bid in football, which happens to be dependent upon a certain number of members?

we're not dropping divisions, Dr. Griffith and school and firmly committed to making the move. The final step is the self-study that will be turned in on time this spring to the NCAA. Plus with Bee out, the donors who did not care for him much, will probably re-open the idea to start writing checks.

I had the same thought as JK- esp considering the scuttlebutt that SB would bolt after a couple years.

then again, I've read posts from their fans saying they love it, BSOUTH is a great fit, etc etc etc.

I've no idea what is internet ramblings and what is legit though- either way.

With Ga. State and ODU joining the CAA for football now, the footprint will be so big, and the conference will be so thin, that a split would be almost mandatory.

Look for the likely scenario to be a nothern conference with the current CAA northern teams, minus UMass, and adding in Stony Brook, Albany, and maybe a couple others, and a southern conference with the VA Schools, maybe Delaware and UMass, Towson, and Liberty as a possibility as well.

What I would rather see is the Big South scoop up Towson if the CAA split, add Valdosta State and/or North Alabama when/if they come up to DI, and just build a better conference, and LU stay here until we move up to the FBS level.

The A-10 basketball affiliation throws an interesting wrench in there too. If the CAA were to split into 2 smaller conferences, they'd be too small to afford to have some teams be in a different conference for basketball.

You're correct in a sense that I think staying in the BSC benefits our football team while at the FCS level. It's as easy of an autobid that exists. It's not that great for other sports though.

Campbell is re-joining the Big South. Football is not currently scheduled to move to the Big South. Does anyone know if they are they considering (unofficially) the move to the Big South for football? Their football program is weak and has struggled in the Pioneer League, but it would add another D1 league game without a transition period. To return the topic back to PC, the Blue Hose would have a conference foe that would allow them to be competitive.

I would be all about adding Campbell... but I think we should save that bullet in case PC bails, or SB bails. I don't think Campbell is in any hurry to move up, anyways.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they are an FCS team now in the Pioneer League.

The Pioneer is non-scholarship. It's DIII football for Division I schools.
