So when did everybody go and vote? I went out about noon and cast my ballot at Heritage UMC not far from my house

I live in a heavily Democratic precinct and waited for almost 4 hours to vote last year. I got there at the same time today and was the 3rd person to vote. All of this means one thing- Governor Bob McDonnell.

McDonnell wins in a landslide!

What I don't understand is why people show up for a national election, but aren't anywhere to be found during the state and local elections. Local officials have FAR more influence in our day-to-day lives. I guess it takes effort and independent thinking to make a decision when CNN and MSNBC aren't telling you what to do.

Voted at 5 PM this afternoon, and then proceeded to sign papers for a mortgage a short time later.

I voted before 9:00 this morning at the Moose Lodge on Lakeside. Only 2-3 people were in front of me. I'm old school, so I chose the paper ballot over the electronic option. Then breakfast across the street at Country Kitchen.

Republicans sweep Virginia's top 3 spots...now time to focus on New Jersey, New York's 23rd, and Maine (and I know I'm probably going against nearly everyone else on this board in Maine).

I did not vote today. Knowing that I'm likely leaving Lynchburg, and probably Virginia, in the next 7-9 months, I didn't feel right picking someone to govern a place I wasn't going to be living. I wasn't going to vote for someone just because Liberty told me to or anything like that. It's not fair to have people govern you that you don't get to vote for but at the same time it's not fair for me to vote for who governs other people.

How many people have said that and yet they're still here in Lynchburg? Not saying that you'll end up stuck in this blackhole like so many others, just saying those (with a few adjustments) are the famous words of many...

I'm sure a lot have said them. If you've talked to me any over the past six months, you know I'm counting down the days to be out of here. The only reason I'm here past December is because I was offered to have school paid for. I'll take my two master's degrees next summer and pack up and head out.

New Jersey's GOP candidate wins. I was surprised (not by the win, but by the fact that we know this morning).

NY-23 goes to the Democrats. That's going to be interesting.

So... Does the Republican party nominate people who adhere to their conservative ideals... or someone who'd get elected and thus, get an "R" to occupy a seat?

Very interesting.

And Maine (Maine!) became the latest state to reject gay marriage at the ballot box. I was not expecting that, especially because the polls tilted against it in the last few days.

It just goes to show that people can say one thing to pollsters so as to not sound bigoted... but when it gets to casting that secret ballot, all bets are off.

It's like the Wilder Effect* for Queers.

*Look it up.

You weren't gonna live in Maine anyway so who cares. If I recall, VA won't recognize a gay marriage from another state anyway.

True, but that can change and one day it will.

When I voted in the morning there was no line whatsoever. I asked the guy handing out the "sample ballet" (that only has the Republicans listed with checks next to their name) if the turnout has been slow and he said that barely anyone had showed up. I think the news was reporting the turnout in some counties as being in the 20's. Pretty sad.

I guess that's one of the downsides to ad-nauseum news coverage. Yeah, people can be more informed, but they also predict every race and it discourages people from trying to make a difference.

Voted in Bedford County. That BarackNRollObama girl was right behind me. I think she and I cancelled each others' vote.

Fortunately, SSA is expecting a change regarding homosexual marriage in my lifetime.

Social Security Administration...technically I'm employed by the Commonwealth of Virginia, but we're doing work for (and being funded by) Social Security.
