I think he is great. He has been doing this for like 27 years, so I see no reason why to change him until he is ready to step down. He does what he is told and he makes a few mistakes, but no body would be perfect - it' s not an easy thing to do. Some of these names are tough and trying to figure out things as quick as he has to - is tough...

I started this poll because I have a very strong opinion that a change is due. I know many of you who post on here can't say anything in fear of stepping on toes at the University. Honestly though, ask yourself. If you made that many mistakes at your own job, would you still have it? In the 2nd half, with the game in hand, he became the butt of jokes in my section. It wasn't even names he was having trouble with. It was simple 1st downs! His accent is horrible, unless you like Civil War reenactments. We now have a 1st class football team,1st class facilites and a 3rd rate announcer. I hope that administration reviews this in the offseason. http://www.flamefans.com/forums/posting ... milies&f=2#

why dont you take your concern to jeff barber instead of dragging the PA announcer through the mud on flame fans. i hightly doubt your "poll" is going to have any influence on change. yeah he makes mistakes sometimes, but he has been a staple around LU football for a long time and until the administration makes a chnage,it is what it is.

Wow! This is obviously a sore subject! The guy is a "PUBLIC" Address announcer and this is a "PUBLIC" message board. Evidently there are many people who feel strongly on both sides of the issue and this thread was intended to discuss the subject rather than just look the other way because "it is what it is".

I have often wondered how our PA announcers for all sports were selected. Certainly not for their voice or all around skills behind the mike. I'm guessing it's because at some point a long time ago they were "available" when we needed someone to do it, they worked cheap, and they have managed to keep from screwing up so bad that we had no choice but to make a change.

There is something about that role that lends itself to longevity at every level. A lot of the announcers for professional teams have been doing it forever. Of course, most if not all of them are REALLY GOOD too, but there is something to be said for hearing a familiar voice when you go to a game. I'm sure there are people around who would sound better and be a better "performer" and maybe even make fewer mistakes, but I'm NOT sure there is a need for a change.

The PA announcer for football isnt bad. Not superb but he does a pretty decent job. Hearing him helps me because as an up and coming broadcaster (and PA announcer) its good to hear others and take what you can to improve yourself.

the poor guy isn't THAT bad...he isn't anything amazing..but certainly doesn't warrant getting rid of the guy..I would imagine its not as easy as it seems, he is certainly better then a certain radio play by play guy I know.......

I'm gonna email AD Jeff Barber and tell him how much I like the PA guy just to cancel out Keenan's opinion.

His accent is pretty much what you will hear everywhere in this area if you step away from the Wards Rd corridor. It's an absurd accent but at the same time that's what makes it awesome that our PA guy has it. Half of his job has been replaced by a video board anyway so just let him read the freaking names. It's not like you're relying on him for a play by play.
