We just lost to VMI 2-1. That seems like a bad loss considering I didn't know that VMI had enough women attending there to field a team. I know that was the second game in as many days but that is a real letdown since the team has been winning of late.
Uh, this is VMI's fifth season w/varsity women's soccer. We're 4-4 in Conference now, coming off of last season's 3rd place finish. Pretty good for a school with approx. 140 women on Post (vs. Liberty's 5,000+?), and considering last year's Conference freshman of the year (Moore) dropped off the squad 3 weeks ago (Haven't heard why).
This was a good game. We had a lot of opportunities in the first half that we failed to capitalize on. VMI's first goal was a pretty bad play by our girls. VMI's second goal was a thing of beauty though. We got screwed out of one for-sure penalty in the last ten minutes (hand ball in the box off of a corner) and a potential penalty in the first half (had a girl go down in the box that went uncalled). We had chances, we just failed to convert.
sat with jon and agree with all he said. despite the missed hand ball in the box, we had so many opportunities and did not convert. i think the ladies put so much effort into the RU game last night and were simply flat. all credit to VMI. they have talented players on the wing that really hurt us. with all due resepct steve VMI has a good program for being so young and last year they took us to the woodshed, so even though we have been playing well this result is not surprising.
