Anybody here had it yet? This thing is totally overrated. How is this a national emergency? The emergency rooms are packed with these scaredy cats too. OMG! Why is health care so expensive!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

Never confirmed but I probably had it. Since so many people had contracted the virus they quit even doing the tests.

Its really no big deal unless you are young/elderly or have weakened system due to other health problems. But it takes forever to get the stuff out of your system.

My wife and I spent 5 hours in the ER the other night because we both had fevers and our lungs hurt when we coughed. The doctor told us she was glad we weren't crazed into thinking we had swine flu, and that is was basically a media and political scare. She said the hospital stopped testing people. And seriously, it's the flu. Normal, healthy people, survive the flu. Older people and people with no immune system and respiratory problems should take precautions.

I think I had it this summer but never went to the doctor. My brother has it right now. I've got something now but I'm pretty sure it's just a cold and an ear infection.

A little penicillin should clear that right up.

1300 kids in my school. 250 were out to start the day. 65 had gone home by noon. I don't know what the final count was. 1/3 of the kids in my classes weren't there Friday or today. I'm not really sure what the point of teaching is right now (or ever, but that's a totally different topic!).

Haven't had the flu since the 5th grade, AND never had a flu shot. Not worried about H1N1 either, but am hoping the governor declares a health emergency in the commonwealth so I automatically get more sick leave.

For the most part, if you are relatively healthy, you should get the shot to protect others. If you are worried about reactions to flu shots I don't really know what to tell you. I guess you should also be worried about meteors falling on your home.

I'm not worried about meteors and I'm not getting the shot.

I know of a few friends who have gotten it. I heard that so many students got it that they didnt have room at the Lynchburg Inn (where they had been housing swine flu cases)

It's not a big deal. It's just the flu. Unless you're around a small infant, pregnant woman, or 100 year old person you don't need a flu shot. And the H1N1 vaccine makes you sick for 2 days. I was sick for about 12 hours with the actual H1N1.

593 deaths in the U.S. Almost 6,000 worldwide.

Vaccinate your kids under 5. Vaccinate those living in concentrated populations. (Like dorms.) Everyone else can deal with it, although the few people I know who have had it did not make it out so lucky as you, LUConn. Did you get a positive test for H1N1?

I agree Scorcho....everybody I know that has had it (and confirmed by tests) was out of commission for at least 5 days.

Its still October

Flu season does not even typically get rolling until November and runs through April.

And there have been 593 deaths in America....did I mention that it is only October?

Yeah, they don't really do the test anymore because they were just letting people deal with it but my wife is 9 months pregnant, and that's pretty much who it kills so my whole family had to get tested and we had it. My 3 year old daughter was sick for about a day, maybe 2, my son for about a day, me for less than a day and my wife was for like over a week. I was less than impressed.

593 deaths is not that many. The regular flu kills 36,000 people in the US per year.

Well, I'm impressed with how easy you folks got out. Good for you. Like I said, everyone I know who's had it for sure was home for at least a week.

I'm not sure if the live virus (nasal spray vacccine) makes you a little sick, but the shot does not make you sick. I got the shot because I am waiting for a double lung transplant. They wouldn't have recommended it if I could have gotten sick.

my kids have never had flu vaccinations and i assume i won't until i'm an old fogy. a little flu is good for the immunes system.

thats why i highly recommend eating food out of the garbage and finishing peoples meals at other tables when you eat at restaurants.
