Dees left because of Dunton and/or Blair, depending on who you ask.

Brewington left because he couldn't stop making babies and had to feed them somehow.

Floyd left because he had problems on his own.
thats funny cause Dell says that if they would have known McKay was leaving he would have stayed especially with Layer coming in.

Dees Left because of Dees.

Dwight Left because he hated McKay and what a scumbag he was

Floyd.... True.

I don’t doubt he said that, but it’s just a way of trying to help save his and his baby Judas’ image.

Didn't see this...so sorry for the double post

UNCA's guarantee money goes, as UNCA alum suggested, to cover our budget. I know (in my other post) Sly wondered where we are spending our money... you gotta figure Women's basketball (for us) has close to the same expendetures as Men's. Plus the guarantees aren't as big. Your close to a million right there with 2 sports down. Considering our budget was somewhere around 4.5 million last year that's pretty significant.

No offense, i was just shocked HOW MUCH you guys spend on basketball, and considering how much you spend, that there isn't more clamoring for better play. Not that you guys are bad in the Big South, consistently middle to upper, but when the next closest Big South team is spending 40% less and that team has been the class of the Conference for the last....what, 5-6 years? Not to mention the team that is spending 75% less (UNCA) is pretty consistently equaling your results and for the last few years, finishing ahead of you.

Not trying to stir the pot (well too much), guess I was just surprised... And certainly no complaints about the job Eddie is doing here considering the funding he has.

We've been in rebuilding mode for the past 5 years. We're on our 3rd coach in 4 years or so. You've got to have some kind of stability to have success. I like to think that given enough time, the enormous difference in money will bring us to the top of this crap heap of a conference. Although that hasn't exactly panned out so far.

Built-in excuses, CJ. They're nice to have around in case you fall on your face.

Who cares? I wouldn't want him if he wanted to come back.

I'm not so sure. I'd be interested to see a comparison. For starters, think salaries: Does Betsy really make near as much (or more, God forbid!) Than Eddie.
I respect what Eddie has been able to do with so little, but I'd still be surprised if the budgets/expenditures of the two sports are as close as you are claiming, even given the "atmosphere" in Asheville.

Coaching salaries are probably the only differences b/w our mens and womens programs.

Every addition to the mens program.. whether it be a revamped locker room, upgraded offices, etc.. is matched by a corresponding addition to the women's program.

Betsy makes $70K per year. Eddie brings in $100K. Don't know about the assistant coaches. Anybody have a list of the salaries for all the Big South coaches?

man, $70k per year for a WBB coaching position in the Big South that's not Liberty. That is bananas.

Bud Childers at WU makes just under $88K. Heck, WU's volleyball coach makes $70K.

She's actually pretty low as related to other public school coaches in North Carolina. The lowest salary in all of NC for a public D-1 coach.

App State, Western, A&T, ECU and Charlotte all make six figures. She even makes less than CIAA coaches at Fay State and Winston Salem State. The coach at NC Central makes 90 grand.

Coach B also makes the least amount of all D-1 public coaches in NC, but at least he makes more than most of the D2 guys.

http://www.wral.com/news/local/page/5910772/

And his salary this year is actually 97K. Will be at 100 next year. And Betsy and Coach B both get half of endorsement revenues... I have no idea how much that would be.

Wow. Eddie B is definately worth more than 100G. Either he is amazingly loyal to UNCA and crazy about living in Hippietown or he has endorsements or some other sources of income there locally.

Someone on our forum asked if those costs include facilities?? Could that be a reason for you guys being as high as you are? I assumed that's not part of the basketball operating budget since other sports use the facility -- but i might be wrong there. And yes MBB & WBB are basically even at Asheville.... Other than the 30k difference in Pay for coaches. MBB assistants to make a decent bit more, if i recall. But our AD Janet Cone is obsessed with making sure everythings 'equal' -- its definitely caused some problems but, i can see how its fair that way.

For those of you that don't know Eddie is like basketball royalty... So he definitely has the opportunities to make more money. Maybe not a ton, but its certainly out there. The NC State connection (played & coached), obviously coached at Davidson, and Georgia and coached dozens of current D1 coaches (many of whom showed up at his golf tourny a few weeks ago). He also played in the NBA and coached players like David Thompson @ state. Many people don't know he was drafted by the Cowboys in the NFL draft as well... And He does have a personal Nike deal, so I'm sure he's make some money off that.

As for why he stays in Asheville. He is the man in Asheville... He is still beloved @ NC State and I'm sure he's had opportunities to go back as an advisor or to work in the athletic department. But he loves Asheville, I think he loves being a 'celebrity' around town. He works with a lot of local groups, there isn't an insane amount of pressure to win. UNCA is a hippie school and d-town asheville is a bit that way, but its also one of the top places for people to retire to in the country. The Bill Graham center is just down the road...So its not as cooky as people make it out to be. We always say its 50/50 really conservative and really liberal people...no one's in the middle :D

But, the point is... No pressure, its not like he needs the money (he donates tons to UNCA every year), he has an impact in the community, he can play golf, he'll never be fired, he is just the man and I think he likes it that way. And now with the new facilities, he may have a chance to really get this thing going for the next few years.

a) He loves to coach and it's not like there are a ton of other schools beating down on his door. He's 64 years old, doesn't have to worry about job security, and can basically do whatever the heck he wants. Plus Asheville is a great place to live, even with the hippies.

Edit: uncafan essentially already made this point.

b) His wife makes plenty of money. A lot more than Eddie. Wouldn't make much sense for them to move. She's arguably the top real esate agent in Western North Carolina. They aren't struggling for cash. Coach B would probably do it for free.
