Someone on our forum asked if those costs include facilities?? Could that be a reason for you guys being as high as you are? I assumed that's not part of the basketball operating budget since other sports use the facility -- but i might be wrong there. And yes MBB & WBB are basically even at Asheville.... Other than the 30k difference in Pay for coaches. MBB assistants to make a decent bit more, if i recall. But our AD Janet Cone is obsessed with making sure everythings 'equal' -- its definitely caused some problems but, i can see how its fair that way.
For those of you that don't know Eddie is like basketball royalty... So he definitely has the opportunities to make more money. Maybe not a ton, but its certainly out there. The NC State connection (played & coached), obviously coached at Davidson, and Georgia and coached dozens of current D1 coaches (many of whom showed up at his golf tourny a few weeks ago). He also played in the NBA and coached players like David Thompson @ state. Many people don't know he was drafted by the Cowboys in the NFL draft as well... And He does have a personal Nike deal, so I'm sure he's make some money off that.
As for why he stays in Asheville. He is the man in Asheville... He is still beloved @ NC State and I'm sure he's had opportunities to go back as an advisor or to work in the athletic department. But he loves Asheville, I think he loves being a 'celebrity' around town. He works with a lot of local groups, there isn't an insane amount of pressure to win. UNCA is a hippie school and d-town asheville is a bit that way, but its also one of the top places for people to retire to in the country. The Bill Graham center is just down the road...So its not as cooky as people make it out to be. We always say its 50/50 really conservative and really liberal people...no one's in the middle
But, the point is... No pressure, its not like he needs the money (he donates tons to UNCA every year), he has an impact in the community, he can play golf, he'll never be fired, he is just the man and I think he likes it that way. And now with the new facilities, he may have a chance to really get this thing going for the next few years.
