Is it really smart to mess with Foxnews?

Anita Dunn, White House communications director, calls Fox News a "wing of the Republican Party," after the White House began using its government blog to criticize "Fox lies."

Calling Fox News "a wing of the Republican Party," the Obama administration on Sunday escalated its war of words against the channel, even as observers questioned the wisdom of a White House war on a news organization.

"What I think is fair to say about Fox -- and certainly it's the way we view it -- is that it really is more a wing of the Republican Party," said Anita Dunn, White House communications director, on CNN. "They take their talking points, put them on the air; take their opposition research, put them on the air. And that's fine. But let's not pretend they're a news network the way CNN is."

Fox News senior vice president Michael Clemente, who likens the channel to a newspaper with separate sections on straight news and commentary, suggested White House officials were intentionally conflating opinion show hosts like Glenn Beck with news reporters like Major Garrett.

"It's astounding the White House cannot distinguish between news and opinion programming," Clemente said. "It seems self-serving on their part."

In recent weeks, the White House has begun using its government blog to directly attack what it called "Fox lies." David Gergen, who has worked for President Bill Clinton and three Republican presidents, questioned the propriety of the White House declaring war on a news organization

Fox news spreads lies and half truths like a Nebraska farmer spreads fertilizer. I still haven't figured out what the "Tea Party" folks were about or the "Birthers" for that matter. It is very strange to me that a media outlet would let people like Glen Beck, a guy who is obviously a couple of fries shy of a happy meal, put out the stuff that he does. I saw him a couple of weeks ago talking about some conspiracy theory about the Rockefeller building, and that was the last time that I'll see him, I promise. I'm not sure what the right approach would be in dealing with this tripe but I only see two ways and that is you either confront it or ignore it. Of course many of you on here have mistaken conservative beliefs with this type of vitriol but I also don't see that connection. Perhaps I just can't appreciate the ugly message that these folks bring to the table.

Not agreeing with all things liberal = ugly message. And it's always funny how the liberals are the ones who can tell us all about Fox News. You guys must watch it more than we do.

Glenn Beck is a right wing nut job. Everybody knows his segment is an opinion. Same with Hannity and O'Reilly. Equating Fox News with Hannity and Beck makes about as much sense as equating MSNBC with Maddow and Olbermann.

Making a big deal about not interviewing with Fox News just comes across as being petty and gives even more attention to the news channel that you are trying to take down. While I think everybody knows that Obama and his administration have a very high opinion of themselves, this one might really take the cake.

"If we don't let President Obama go on Fox News, that will hurt their ratings!!!" He went on The Factor during the campaign. Don't feel like looking it up, but it was probably the highest rated cable news interview that he did out of Fox, CNN and MSNBC. And the interview went fairly well.

The only people that will appreciate this move are those on the far left that already worship the ground that Obama walks on. It's not like he needs to win their vote. Doesn't make much sense to me from any perspective.

Now the white males that are leaving the Obama camp en masse that watch Fox News because all of the girls on there (save Greta) are smoking hot.... well he might need their vote in 2012.

Some criticism coming from the left.

Whiner-in-chief seems to be an apt description. The whole administration seems to be taking a while to come to the realization that this isn't the campaign anymore. You can't just walk out there and give a feel good speech and expect everything to be okay.

i dislike fox news for the record. it over sensationalizes everything to the point of absurdity. msnbc and cnn are hilariously trying to battle this and they fail miserably. they just look like the celebritards who think they we should listen to their political opinion because they are famous and that they are doing us a service and should praise them for it.

janene gerafalo or whatever her name is....lol...noone cares what you have to say.

I'm not a huge fan of Fox News either. Used to watch Hannity, but he says the same crap over and over again. Only need to watch him about once every two months and you'll be fine. I could only take Beck for about fifteen minutes and haven't turned him on since. Stopped watching O'Reilly as well. All he ever talks about is his ratings. We get it Bill. People watch your show. All three are egomaniacs.

I do like Britt Hume though and you can't beat election coverage that includes Michael Barone. And foxnews.com isn't nearly as bad as the channel itself. Plus, as has been previously mentioned, their girls are really hot.

Not about fox news but more complaining about the media and this presidents attention. In walmart like ten minutes ago one of those tabloids had the cover about Michelle obamas feud with Oprah. Seriously, she is not a celebrity, she is the first lady. I find that wrong on so many levels. I dont want a president who is a celebrity, I want a president who cares more about serving his title than popularity.

I only watch the news if there's a news event that happened that I want to see with my own eyes. Otherwise I just read from sources I have come to trust and filter out the bias myself. But of all the news networks, Fox is the least aggravating to watch for me.

I haven't watched his show since the other dude left, but I listen to his radio show for about 15 minutes a day on my way home from the gym. Every single day he's saying the same things from the day before until the next "big" story comes out, or story that he wants to make a big deal out of and he'll say the same things about that for the next few days. He's on for 3 hours a day and I think you could probably summarize what he says into about 30 minute radio show per week. He's been talking about this school czar guy who told a high schooler to wear a condom everyday for like 2 weeks. How much can you possibly say about that situation?

hannity is an idiot. i can't listen to him for more than 30 seconds before i want to drive into oncoming traffic.

Imagine how me and the 3 other people with brains who think for themselves will feel in Convo Friday when he goes for about 35 minutes.

I watch Fox News, the commentary that the network has is very conservative (Beck/Hannity) and leans conservative (O'Reilly/Van Sustern). If you throw in Huckabee and Geraldo, they almost equal out on the spectrum. The news on Fox News is more "balanced" than with MSNBC and CNN. You can pick up maybe one or two conservatives on each network. MSNBC has Scarborough and Pat Buchanan, while CNN has Lou Dobbs. I just had my fill of watching CNN and MSNBC making a mockering of Christianity and our values. Their election coverage was also an extention of the DNC and the Obama adminstration can't say that its not, since GE is a corporate sponsor of the DNC. I'll call :BS on this admistration for that.

Haha I think you'd be surprised at the number of people around campus who really aren't looking forward to convo on friday.

Greta probably plays it up a little bit for the Republican base that is watching her show and she obviously understands ratings, but zero chance she isn't a Democrat.

- Ex trial lawyer
- Scientologist
- Husband is a big time behind the scenes Dem operative

Yeah, Greta's a liberal, always has been, as is Shep Smith (who I don't mind). And Scarborough isn't much of a conservative, just when it's convenient.

It's funny that pretty much everyone else thinks this same thing.
