Who are the best D1 Coaches to Play for ?

Cant be from the school you're affiliated with

Who are the D1 Volleyball coaches(or staffs) that are generally regarded as:

1. Fair and honest
2. connect well with their players
3. great volleyball coaches
4. well respected among coaches
5. fun to play for
6. positively impact players for life

Forget school affiliation.

Who would you want to coach your daughter/ granddaughter ?

Thanks

I was very impressed with Shane Pinder from Liberty. He brought his team into Lincoln to play the Huskers in the first round of the NCAA tourney this year. His team played hard and were obviously well coached. Liberty lost the match but they remained positive as did their coach through out the entire match. At the end of the match Coach Pinder gathered the Husker team in the middle of the court and had a few words of encouragement and appeared to join both teams in prayer. First class guy all the way.

Since your stated rules don't let me vote for Christy Johnson at Iowa State, I second the vote for Shane Pinder at Liberty. Very classy guy and building a great program down there.

That's some great love right there from teams that have no connection to us at all except for the fact that we've played them before...

Have we played Iowa State though?

Anyways, great to see what others are saying!

Congrats Coach

Yep, I must admit I was one of those that were pretty hard on him a few years back, and it came from my own ignorance about coaching, recruiting, etc...

Great job coach on building a solid program in addition to garnering praise and admiration from top-level opponents.

The Nebraska fans were definitely impressed with the way our girls played and how they were coached. These are fans that really know vollleyball. They hold a fan clinic every spring there to teach them the game. Getting kudos from savvy fans like them is a real plus. Congrats, coach.

The small group of us that made it to Nebraska were not surprised by the actions of coach Pinder after the game, but it stopped NU fans cold in their seats. I watched 4,200+ fans stand in somewhat disbelief as the two teams held hands in a circle, and listened to coach give them words of praise and then pray. At the end of the prayer, everyone clapped to show their support for the moment of faith and sportsmanship. During the clapping the girls started to hug eachother... this brought on more clapping and cheers. Afterword, we found out this was the first time it had ever happened. It was reported in the newspaper as an act of great sportsmanship. Vadim and I had NU fans coming up to us for 15 minutes to talk about LU and the teams ability to play well at Nebraska. It was a high impact night for Lu and coach Pinder!

Coach has certainly done some great things over his time here. After being in his practices quite consistently, it is easy to see how much he cares about the girls, the program, and the purpose of the team.

Hats off to you coach.

I was friends with Shane in college, although I can't get a hold of the guy these days! Anyway, he has always been a great guy and I LOVE that he is doing something he loves! Thanks for sharing the article!

this post puts a big smile on my face. I have known pinder for a while and I know coaching this team has been a dream come true for him. There is nothing else that he is meant to be doing. The girls love playing for them and he loves seeing young athletes grow. As a former athlete I can attest to the fact that playing for someone you want to play for makes all the difference in the world. Congrats to Pinder and the whole volleyball organization!

:D

surprising to learn thats the first time its ever happened at Neb, but awesome that Pinder is getting some love from fans across the country. (certainly for a couple of years here he wasn't getting much) having covered vball for the Champion for 4 years when i was in my undergrad, Pinder was great to work with. hopefully this opens doors for the team to not only be invited to play against teams of the highest quality (i.e. Neb) even more in the future, but to accomplish even more the real reason we compete - to help point people to Christ.

Coach Pinder picked up his 93rd win as LU head coach tonight...if all goes well he will have a chance to go for 100 against Winthrop in Rock HIll and then tie for 3rd all time November 6 against UNCA, and then move into third all by himself the next afternoon against Gardner-Webb.
