that would be sweet. I noticed they put up the new sign for the movies next to red lobster. No movies listed. Does that mean the other one in the mall already shut it's doors?

I think it means they just stole their sign & Carmike hasn't realized it yet.

Opening next week....
Reduced ticket prices and themed movie days are planned for the opening of Lynchburg’s first new theater in 18 years.

Regal Entertainment Group this week announced plans for the opening of River Ridge Stadium 14, beginning with themed preview events Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Proceeds from ticket, drink and popcorn sales for those three days will benefit area charities.

The theater will open in the space at River Ridge mall that had been occupied by Value City, which closed in June 2008.

The schedule has 14 movies showing over the opening three days; 11 of the films will show on all three days, with three additional movie offered according to each day’s theme.

Tickets, drinks and popcorn will be $1 each during those days.

Proceeds from Monday’s family day movies — which include “Hannah Montana: The Movie,” “G-Force” and “Hotel for Dogs,” will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lynchburg.

The super-hero themed Tuesday features a lineup of “The Dark Knight,” “Iron Man” and “Watchmen,” with proceeds benefiting Blue Ridge Emergency Medical Services.

Wednesday’s offerings are along a military theme and include “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “Valkyrie.” Proceeds from that day will benefit LU Students Behind Our Soldiers.

The real question now is......

Over/under on 1 year for the Carmike in the Plaza to close??
they WOULD have $1 popcorn and drinks when im trying to make weight. that being said, awesome line up and i'll have to go check out those movies. and over/under on carmike closing in a year? i'll take the over...just barely... once they close it, here's hoping crime takes a nosedive over there.

Looks like matinee tickets will be 7.50 and non-matinee adult tickets will be 9.50. So $1.50 more than matinee price at the River Ridge Four but the other one is the same price.

There's still a market for cheap movies. It's either that, pay more money to rent, or do the netflix type of deal.

So i went last night and tried this place out since all the movies were $1. How can anyone pass up The Dark Knight for that price??

Here are my thoughts:

- There are two side entrances and one from inside the mall making the "lobby" area before you even get to the theater HUGE. Its going to be a hangout spot im sure, but they do have cops stationed there it appears. It is also decorated with a lot of local art and pics of the burg.

- Maybe its just cause its opening week, but they had so many people working it was crazy. Guys directing you in line, greeters everywhere, and managers with ear pieces looking like govt employees walking and talking.

- Its your typical stadium seat place, but the lighting in my theater seemed off. By that i mean the floor lighting wasn't pointed down far enough and was creating a shadow which could be seen on the screen at times. Plus every stair has a small lip on it that lights the next stair down i think, but your going to trip if you don't pay attention.

I walked in from inside the mall and my first thought really was " im not in lynchburg anymore". Its just weird ( but im appreciative don't get me wrong) to have something that nice here.

I noticed that there was the shadows on the bottom of the screen of the chairs from that first row of chairs after the big gap that you walk through.

I felt the same way (like when I stepped into the Vines Center after it opened). I loved all the ceramic tile everywhere and all the dollar popcorn & Cokes they were pushing at you as you'd walk by.

And all the ushers and staff were in black suits. I felt like I was back at TRBC, circa 1985.

We saw District 9. It was the first time I've seen it, and I was too into the movie to really notice anything wrong. I do think that the lobby behind the lobby, where the concessions are, is kind of cramped. They should have opened that up more, I can see that getting real crowded.

Also, not sure if anyone else noticed, but the arcade games are also free this week. My 5-year-old daughter discovered this for us.

The poor guy didn’t make it very long. :)
