Further, a few years ago, we were out of compliance with Title IX because we had too many women's scholarships. Our solution? Spend more money to develop men's scholarship teams when we should have cut back on women's.

So once again... would we miss them?
Yes, we would miss them. The athletes that train hard and participate in these sports will miss them. The parents and fans will miss them. Just because you wouldn't miss them doesn't mean someone else might. Take the blinders off, see the world as it really is, not just from your perspective.
agree wholeheartedly with the Chicken here. Esp on the wrestling- SACRILEGE! SACRILEGE!

You need fourteen sports, at least seven of which must be women's sports.

Currently, including the new women's swimming and women's lacrosse programs, Liberty now has eighteen sports -- nine men's and nine women's. Liberty went the cutback route in the 90's when they were trying to shave every nickel just to keep the doors open. It worked but enrollment stagnated. Since LU is no longer in that position and given the mission of the university, it makes no sense to do that now.
yeah, they already cut wrestling once... i think if you tried to cut it again you'd have about 50 VERY angry wrestlers HUNTING you down... let's not forget they've won 3 consecutive NCAA East Regional Titles... hard to cut a winning program (granted, they did it once before when it was a top 30 D-1 program)

This is all very interesting. We have a sincere interest in LIberty University and we live hours away from your campus, we are not alumni, nor are we enrolled. If your university's mission is "To Train Champions For Christ" then how can you even suggest that an athletic team be cut from the program? What better way to witness for Our Lord than through competition and the socialization that comes from all athletic competition. I am very new to your FlamesFan site and I am really just amazed that the main mission is so easily dismissed by the above posts. It would appear that God has blessed your university with athletic teams and much more. Celebrate this opportunity and support all of your athletic programs. Specifically speaking about tennis, I have seen time and time again the Glory of God at work on the tennis court, during change overs, after a dispute, before a match begins and after a match concludes. Even when a player is just walking around a tournament site it is evident that God is working through a particular athlete. God has obviously blessed Liberty, Celebrate your gifts and take pride in the fact that you have so many athletes being trained to be a "Champion For Christ!" I do realize that the above posts are just the opinion of a few but I wanted to participate.
My Best to All, tennisfan

Some schools are actually even adding sports for the added economic benefit (helps increase enrollment and athletes typically have have higher retention rates are two of the big ones).
