Does anyone use the hiking trails on the mountain? Where is the best place to start out if you are driving in and need to park somewhere? We love the Blackwater Creek trails downtown but the driving distance is a little far when time is short. Appreciate any help you guys can give.

I've only been on them once. But everybody parks at Wingate because there's a main entrance right on the opposite side of the road. You'll see the sign. You could also park up at the snowflex centre and there's a sign that gives you an arrow to the monogram. Most of the trails break off of that main trail to the monogram.

Forget the Wingate. Now you can park much closer at the Snowflex, and that's LU parking. Walk from there directly to the monogram, and you'll see signs and posts for side trails along the way.

They are soooo much more extensive than that!

Drive up to Camp Hydaway Rd, go down there and when you see the gate on the left pull in front of it and park. There is room for about 4 cars there. I believe they have a map posted there also.

Park at Camp Hydaway, walk around the gate and down the hill, to the right around the lake and there are several trails behind the lake that go toward the monogram and snowflex.

Look at the map of the trails and try to find other entrances too, but those are some of the best ones if you are going to park there. If you want more options you can email the trail manager and ask for good places to park.

If thats the case when its that person a member?? Id like to get a dog and start running some of these trails, but the only aerial maps that are given aren't exactly making me feel like its easy to navigate.....im sure other would have questions as well....

I just found this on the LU website. They are free. It even lists Lars Larson as the trail manager! (Wonder what his middle name is?)

Maps. Pshhh. In the good ol' days, we would all just run up there and find our way around by exploring (and getting REALLY lost). Only a couple of the trails even had markings and several of those ended up in dorm rooms as momentos (I know nothing of this).

I'm glad to see the mountain is being put to good use now. Get out there and enjoy the trails- especially as the weather gets cooler. Nothing like hearing the dry leaves crack under your feet on a nice long run. Makes that Darwin guy seem like a real idiot.
