Its not often a blocking fullback gets much attention in game summary in a fishwrap. So randy must be one ferocious blocker ...
Maryland Gazette wrote:Josh Furman sandwiched Southern's Jerel Williams' score with two rushing touchdowns, and Jason Clements ran for two during the second half behind Randy Spann and Old Mill's offensive line, which helped gain 347 yards on the ground.
"It's a really great asset to have," said Furman, who scored on a 6-yard run early in the second and added a 65-yard sprint with 3:28 left. "When you have running backs like me and Jason … we run the ball. But when you have a blocker like Randy in front of us, it's going to help our running game out."
Spann put a fierce block on Matt Jordan to allow Furman to coast easily into the end zone for a 7-3 lead. Furman took the handoff and cut to his left, and Jordan went with him.
But Spann got to Jordan first. By the time Jordan got to his feet, Furman was celebrating in the end zone.
"Ask him to smile, and you'll see his tooth knocked out," Spann said. "I knocked his teeth out. That's how hard I hit him. I just like hitting people. That's what I do."
I love it. He may be an undersized linebacker, but I believe you need guys like this on the roster. We're losing Tim Torrence to graduation. Hopefully Randy can be one who will pick up that mantle.
