In fact...I wouldn't be that shocked if we did beat W&M. It will be on homecomming, that gives us a huge advantage...

And we've come close to beating ranked APpy state and Hampton teams at home in the recent past.

Not surprising enough to risk injury for. (you save that for huge things).

Now maybe if we're 7-1 and we beat Westhern Carolina, and have a chance at the playoffs...I'd be more with you for that win...it might mean something more...and it will be a home game.

I'm just not into our defining moment being a win against W&M.

Beating App in the past means, once again, jack crap. It means abso-freakin-lutely nothing. There's no chance we are even in the discussion for the playoffs this year. We have to win every I-AA game and come within one score of Wake Forest and even then, that probably wouldn't get us in.

Let's see here...Bill and Mary:

In state
Homecoming
Tons of kids from that area go to LU
Power team from power conference
Were in the semis last year

Western Carolina:

Finished 4th in the SoCon
Didn't make the playoffs
Not picked to finish in the top 3 this year

You tell me which would be the bigger win.

As for the risking injury crap, we risk more injury having the entire campus in the Vines Center three times a week than we would tearing down the goal posts.

If our only loss is to Wake forest...we go to the playoffs...the I-A score doesn't count towards anything as far as the I-AA playoffs go.

I was under the assumption that Western Caroline was our last home game...if I'm wrong...whatever the last home game would be that would put us in would be the biggest game...much bigger than a win over W&M that had a off year this year and is picked to finish 4th in their conference this year. (even though I admit they're a lot better than us, and it would be an upset, and a great win for LU).

Also, I believe in 04 W&M had a great QB that was a senior...,

I think W&M is breaking in a new QB this year, or they have a sophmore QB, and they're comming off a rough year (even though they beat us 63-0 or something like that).

...I'm sure Kaplan can tell us!!

Hahahahahaha, woooo, this one made me laugh. There was a team in the Big South last year that thought for sure after their last home game they'd be going to the playoffs and then lost the last game of the season to an inferior opponent. Celebrating a win over Chuck South means jack crap.

Don't bring up the schedule unless you're sure of it. Sorry, I've learned that from Woody Paige.

Let's look at recent past:

Coastal lost one game last year, a 30-3 game against App St. They beat the defending national champions. They also had wins over DII Mansfield and I-AA Savannah State. Even if they were to beat CSU on that last Saturday, a lot of people didn't think they deserved to get in. That was with a MUCH harder schedule than we have this year.

This is a rebuilding year. The goal should be to have more wins than losses. Anyone who thinks we can get into the playoffs without going undefeated is on some type of drug that I've never heard about.

CCU's schedule last year was very similar to LU's this year, as you pointed out. It doesn't matter what people thought...Coastal would've got in if they would have beat Charleston Southern.

You can laugh all you want. LU had an easy schedule in 97, but most people thought we'd make the playoffs if we beat Hofstra...2 div 2 schools, and a loss to Hampton..., and we were still in the top 15 with two weeks left in the season. Check it out.

Here's the point...beating JMU was a big deal for CCU...

But if LU beat JMU, it wouldn't be that big of a deal...it's would be a great rivalry win, but we've beat JMU before...CCU had never done that.

Granted, CCU was ranked #1 at the time...but I think that even if LU had beat a #3 appy a couple years back, the posts wouldn't have come down.

SJ, sometimes you make me laugh...you're now at a school with more history, look at the past schedules, ha. Patience before destruction!

I give up after this post :)

Are you on crack? Coastal's schedule was much harder than LU's this year.

Liberty: Two DIIs
Coastal: One DII

Advantage: Coastal

Savannah State on both schedules

Advantage: Push

Liberty: Wake
Coastal: App

Advantage: Push (nobody wins at The Rock)

Liberty: Western Carolina
Coastal: SCSU

Advantage: Coastal

Liberty: William and Mary
Coastal: JMU

Advantage: Coastal

Liberty: No more I-AAs
Coastal: Elon

Advantage: Coastal

Coastal's schedule was much harder. I'm not even being a Coastal homer on this one. Anyone not drinking kool-aid would say this.

Most of those Division IIs are now I-AAs. There are a lot more I-AA options in 2006 than in 1997, so you can't afford to have as many DIIs on your schedule. One DII is all that's acceptable, and that's even frowned upon.

and the risk of injury? if your dumb enough to be on the field and see a bunch of people tearing down the goal posts and you just stand there as they fall on you, then you deserve to be injured for the sake of the rest of mankind. especially with as bad of drivers most of these virginians are, we should tear down the goal posts in order to alleviate some of that problem

I'm a little late as we're talking about something else now, but I've always thought this was a neat tradition but I've always thougth that athletic departments must hate it just because it's such a pain in the butt. I bet it's expensive to get new ones. If it did ever happen, just one time, our new goal posts would be the collapsable type that WVU has.

also I forgot to mention that the defeating a IA team scenario put forth is stupid because we will never ever play a IA team in Williams Stadium and I'd like to see you try and tear the opposing teams posts down. Police would crack your head open before you even got to the side line.

i have been a part of two goal post parties. when UVA beat florida state for the first time, and when UNC beat miami in chapel hill. though it is a awesome experience to be on the field it is dangerous, and schools can make sure it does not happen. i do not think getting arrested is worth it , but to see that at williams would be a neat deal.

Walking outside is dangerous. Driving a car is dangerous. Eating at the Rot is dangerous. We all do these things anyways. There are some "dangers" that are worth taking.

Give SJ a break. If all the students had his kind of passion pulling the posts would be a no-brainer. He might be the spark that starts the Flames--at least the student Flames.

it's my opinion. this is a messageboard and we are free to voice our opinions right? with that being said if you read my whole post, i did say it would be a cool deal to see that at williams, and i have not once piled on SJ for his enthusiasm. i hope we gets the whole student boday fired up.

Yes, Lang is now on the Browns.

We now have Jake Phillips, a Soph, and he played a good amount last season. Showed flashes of greatness.

At one point last year we were 5-2 last year, but then we dropped the last 4 and ended up being 5-6.

Most people(at least Tribe fans) think we will get somewhere between 6-8 wins this year.
