I'm trying to decide whether to go to this game. Does anyone know if LU's band is going, and if they get to do any of their field show on the WVU field?
(It seems some larger schools don't let the away band perform a fieldshow, just standtunes). Anyone know anything regarding this?

Also, anyone know how WVU's band is? (I didn't know whether to put this is the football thread b/c it's about the wvu/lu game, or the other sports thread...feel free to move it if you want).

These things will help me to decide whether to go to the game!

Thanks.

Dont let band(s) decide whether to go to the game or not! Just go.

I was in the band and like seeing it. I have to put down $90 for tickets for me and Julie, and another $100 for a hotel room...and if someone passes away in my church and I have to do a funeral, I'd miss the whole thing...everytime I plan to go somewhere, it's a risk. I'm just about to buy the tics - but this is a $200 dollar risk...I don't think I can get trip insurance for a football game, haha.

So before I risk my $200...I want to make sure I see the team and the band.

I havent heard anything about it (course Im not in the band anymore) but Im sure its something that Dr Kerr and JB have discussed. Id guess that if they did go theyd only do stands tunes, although when we went to WF a couple years ago we did a field show (although it was in pregame) and we've done a partial show at halftime when we went down to Coastal. With the shorter time frame because of classes Id doubt that if they did go theyd be doing a field performance and just stay in the stands

Probably more like John Denver:

WVU's band is easily one of the top 20-30 bands in the country. The Pride of West Virginia, as its known, was the recipient of the prestigious Sudler Trophy in 1997 as the nations top collegiate marching band. With numbers in excess of 300, The Pride is most popular for its intricate field formation of the state of West Virginia (have you seen the outline of the Ohio River?!), as well as its arrangement of "Simple Gifts."

I'm partial, but even if LU's band didn't perform at all, seeing this band just once is worth the $45 ticket, especially if you're into that stuff.

Check them out on YouTube. Search "WVU marching band." A bunch of stuff from their 2007 Sugar Bowl trip is in there, played before a sellout crowd in the Georgia Dome. Cool stuff!

Well...I'd be dissappointed if the Spirit of the Mountain does't go. This is a 1A game...even if they just do stand tunes. When we score against the mountaineers I want to hear Fan the Flames!

Oh you'll hear it. It may be a bunch of guys singing off tune, but you'll hear it.

What? Our fearless leader isn't going to make the trip to Morgantown?

Uh, no.

$45 ticket plus a five hour drive each way and food = a ton of money.

All of that money can be saved and used to go to Lafayette and GW, games that we have a much better chance of winning and that are much more important than WVU.

GW and Lafayette are likely the only two games I'll be able to travel to this year. It's just too expensive. I've been to ten games each of the past three years and I simply can't afford to do it this year. When it comes down to it, I'd rather go to two FCS games, especially a conference one, than go to one FBS game.

eh quit hatin CHL...Jon's right, it aint exactly cheap to follow your team, especially in this economy. I mean Im probably not gonna be able to go to WVU myself (I'll probably have an assignment the night before as it is). If you can spare the dough, hey more power to ya, just not everybody can and Jon's obviously letting good eonomic sense trump fandom and Id rather that be the case than anything

I don't think Luke was hating BJ. Chill out. It's called friendly banter.

Let's put together a send Super to Morgantown fund. BJ, you're in charge. I'll start the ball rolling with the first Jackson ($20). Who's in?

I don't want you guys to pay for me. It's not a big deal to me. My seat in front of the tv will likely be better than the one I can by for $45.

But, Super, going to Morgantown is probably like NASCAR: the view from the TV just isn't the same.

I'm sure it's not. And if the opportunity comes up down the line that I can go to WVU, sure. But for now, I'm perfectly content going to GW and Lafayette.

I'd rather buy two shirts from Target than one shirt from JCrew, no matter how nice the shirt from JCrew may have been. The same applies for games.

I have to agree with SJ on this. It would be nice to go but the expense isn't worth it.
