I can't believe this is the first time we've won the tournament since the 1990s, but based on the roster for this year's team, if this is the best they could have done this year, then that doesn't surprise me because I wouldn't exactly classify all these guys as the best players under 19 by any means whatsoever. There are a ton of incoming freshman this year that are better than pretty much every single player on that team.

Secondly, how does Gordon Hayward make a U19 team when he was born in March of 1988? Wouldn't that make him 21 since this is 2009? In the American mathematical system, 21 has always been older than 19...

I think he made the team because he was born in 1990. At least according to every source I could find.

USA Basketball site has him listed as 1988 for some reason.

I'm glad we won the gold. Go USA. Couldn't care less if Seth was on the team or how he did.

Why does everyone keep bringing up the fact that these aren't the best U19's? Do you not remember what happened every year when we just threw together the best players? We lost. This was the best team for international play, just like the Redeem Team was last summer.

I'm happy for Seth and the team. I'd really love to get over this jilted feeling and move on.

I totaly agree with you SuperJon and I know that everyone one here will not like this next statement but I am happy for Curry and the U19 team. Im also stoked to see Gordon Hayward on there and doing good. He is from my high school so its awesome to see a local boy do good.

I'm glad Seth is doing well. I'll pull for him anytime he's not wearing a Duke uniform.

Your saying that they picked based on team chemistry rather than talent?

I'd agree with you if this was the Olympic but not for a team where you are generally only going to play 1 or 2 years

You really don't read articles do you?
“This team was unique as far as U.S. teams. I think it was better suited for international. We may not have had as many name guys as other teams, but I really thought it was suited and I think we selected guys that were suited to the international game and the FIBA rules. We really shot the ball well, we were skilled, we were a good free throw shooting team and I think that was something that was beneficial to us.”
That was right there, in the article, from the head coach.

I actually DID read that and still think that's PR spin for being rejected.

What's the best way to say you were rejected? By saying something that cannot be disputed or proven....I'm unsure as to how you would expect the coach to say anything different. I dont think the "Yeah, these guys are 2nd tier players but oh well, I'm a 2nd tier coach b/c all the top players (and coach) had better things to do"

After a few months of not thinking about the curry situation has me more thankful that we had him for a year. He brought us publicity and recognition, and we might get more if he does well at Duke, plus I thought he was a good guy and I really like his family. Its good to see him do well.
