But not w/ coaches until the actual start of camp. (Is that correct for all sports, or just mine?)

Strength coaches can be there, but not actual coaches.

Before everyone takes this guy’s word for it, look at his only 2 posts. They have been about the two guys coming from South Carolina. I’m pretty sure he/she is in favor of both Beecher and Freddie Brown coming here and making an impact and has some connection with them. He stated “it’s my understanding that Mike Brown has been running mainly at WR.” So, that means he hasn’t actually seen it with his own eyes.

True. His name is so close to others, I thought it was someone else.

I have a feeling this one is pretty connected to the situation though...

go watch practice - and then come back on board and tell us what you see. Tommy has been on campus and working with the team since early June. I think you guys will be impressed with Freddie - but he won't be there until Aug. Tommy is there now. Your guess of the situation may become more educated after actually seeing the guys rather than just guessing. JMO

Well Im curious because official practices don't start until Aug 5th (as mentioned) so the only way Beecher is working out with the team is if he is getting together with the receivers and working on their own outside of their lifting sessions. If he is Im sure that is going to help his chances. I do still think that Mike Brown is the guy and Beecher would have to really show himself to be a significant upgrade. Just because he is coming in from an SEC proram I dont think is reason to automatically anoint him the starter.

you guys realize he's giving good advice about going out to practice and watching right? no need to pull hair. just go form your own opinion based on what is happening out there in the "unofficial" practices.

They report on the 5th, first official practice is the 6th, unless that's changed in the last few weeks.

Man, for someone who applied to be a Division I head coach, you're not to up on how the off-season practice works.

This is correct. The guys have organized themselves to run practices on their own a couple nights a week.

That's good, seeing as I was going to be out of town on the 5th. :D

+1 I think we need to get the ball in his hands as much as possible. And I am not trying to compare him to the greatness of Tim Tebow... But a lot of people thought he wouldn't be a very good passing QB, but would just be good as a running QB, and look at him now... a heisman and a national championship in his trophy case. I'm not saying Mike will be our Tim Tebow, but let's give him a shot and see what he can do with our offense.

And many of you claim this is a rebuilding year for us and there may be some truth to that opinion. So why on earth should we go with a guy like Landis or Beecher who will be gone next year.

But then again, if Beecher is looking that much better than Brown, maybe he will make something happen this year. Who knows?

I think the only way Beecher beats out Mike Borwn is he if makes Mike Brown look unfit for the job. By that I mean if he comes in the practices and scrimmages and is clearly the best option (and if Mike's arm has not improved) then Beecher will get the job. That being said, I think he will have to blow Brown out of the water to get the job for the simple reason of the future. If the team is going to take some lumps this year, why not take them with a guy who will be around for 3 more years and build rapport for the future. So basically unless Beecher can come in and make a VRedd type impact I doubt he will get the job. It's just too early to know any of this and 2 months can change a lot of things.

I believe Coach Rocco will choose to have whoever he feels will give him the best chance to win each game that comes next.
