Are there any other players from last year's team who signed free agent contracts? Are there any that are going on to play in the CFL or arena?

I know Brock was working on getting into a camp this weekend. Mike hasn't heard anything yet, and I haven't talked to Dominic.

Matt had an impressive camp up in the Great White North so I anticipate he'll sign there. I wouldexpect Brock, Mike & Dom to all get rookie camp invites.

I read somewhere that Collin Drafts from CSU is a FA for the SF 49'ers.

I just remembered Matt Lambros telling me that the CFL Draft was a week after the NFL Draft. Here's a link to the CFL draft. I believe I heard the guy say that Matt will be an early pick. They had a short clip on Matt making a catch!! WOOHOO!!! They also mentioned that the 1st & 2nd rounds of their draft will be aired on TSN, May 2nd.

That was actually Dobson Collins WR from G-Webb that signed with the 49ers.

Joseph found CFL newcomer Matt Lambros from 22 yards on the first possession of the second half to give Toronto its second 20-point lead of the game
That's funny. Matt's played one game in the pros and he's already caught more TD's there than he caught in college.

This is not a knock on Matt, and I'm really happy for him, but I guess this gives us a bit of an idea of the level of play up there in Canada. Kid couldn't get on the field for a very good but far from elite FCS program, and he is playing and scoring a touchdown in his first game as a rookie in the CFL.

It also shows the difference in the game. They use a bigger ball in Canada, one that he was much more used to playing with than the ball we use here.

Matt was a decent talent at this level but he had a knack for untimely injuries. He was poised to have a breakout year in 08 but hurt two body parts on the same play in the preseason and, by the time he came back, he was way down the depth chart.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him do well in Canada. He's a bigger target than CFL QB's are used to having and the game is played on a bigger field so he has more space to work with.

Interesting write-up on Lambros from CANOE. Kid's pretty tough.

Lambros in tough with Argos

By LANCE HORNBY, SUN MEDIA

Calgarian Matt Lambros’ first CFL catch was a Canada Day touchdown, but his good luck is truly defined by the cross-shaped surgical star on his pelvis.

That’s where two surgeries were required to remove a large tumour from his stomach that was detected in his teen years.
Amid all the bizarre plays in the Argos’ opener in Hamilton — kicker Eddie Johnson’s separated shoulder on the first play, the brawl triggered by a late hit on quarterback Kerry Joseph and Arland Bruce’s controversial Michael Jackson tribute, came Joseph’s 22-yard fling to Lambros, who had made the game roster as a backup because of injuries.

“Definitely a dream come true,” Lambros said. “I had to watch the film a couple of times to make sure it really happened. It was a play I’ve run in camp a lot so I felt really comfortable. We got the coverage we expected, I gave (a Ticats defensive back) a quick move to the outside and as soon as I saw his hips bite, I turned upfield and Kerry just put the ball in a great spot.

“You go back a week before when I thought I would be on the practice roster, then not only playing, but getting a TD. The emotion I had was pretty crazy. My parents were in Calgary watching on TV. Dad was happy, but my brother is the big fan and even more pumped. I was texting with everyone in the family.”
