still interested to hear how/why any of this stuff could help me.
no you are fine...don't worry about it...my father has an itouch he attempts to use as his daytimer (previously he used just that....a daytimer) and he is constantly confused and calling me and frustrated....

I've done that for some people in the AD at LU and they've all had luck. No promises but I've always had good luck. I'm also spending $160 a month with them for about 20 years now though. Although I've done it for people only spending $99 a month with no problems.

http://gizmodo.com/5288488/smartphone-b ... f-the-best

Gizmodo provides a very good breakdown here, in terms of hardware, software, and cost. Pre might just be the phone of choice if I get a real job anytime soon. That differences in carrier cost for the unlimited plan is significantly in favor of the Palm Pre. Onyl thing that would make me change my mind in favor of the iPhone 3GS is the storage size, which none of the others can compete with.

I was at Best Buy tonight and checked out the Pre Display. Great sized phone, the biggest problem for me is the key pad is very small. Would be impossible to type on it. Gotta keep looking. Was really considering this when it came to Verizon in the fall.

that's the kind of thing you just get used to. It may seem cramped at first but you probably won't even notice after a month.

Ars Reviews the Palm Pre, part 1: the BlackBerry killer

By Jon Stokes | Last updated June 10, 2009 11:40 PM CT

Most of the gadget press is obsessing over whether the Palm Pre is an iPhone killer, but they're asking the wrong question. We've been testing one for the past few days, and it's clear to us that the real target of Palm's new phone is the BlackBerry. Here's how Palm will use the webOS to tackle the enterprise market.

the iPod Touch virtual keyboard is pretty small when not in landscape mode and i've gotten used to that. now landscape mode is pretty good, but portrait mode takes more getting used to. i don't imagine the palm pre is that much smaller than the iPhone in portrait mode.

basically, anyone who worked on the palm pre should get a huge raise, they most likely just saved the company from going under.

The overall success of the product can be directly attributed to one man and they just made him their CEO. He used to be the head of the iPod and Macintosh divisions at Apple. Yeah. Killer hire for Palm.

Now I have an IPod Touch, and i think the keyboard is easier to type on than the Palm. Even it Portrait mode.

That guy clearly knew what he was doing at Apple, that's for sure, so whoever had the final say as to if he was hired should get a big raise, even though saying "yes" to the hiring decision seems like a no brainer.

A friend of mine at church just got the Pre last week....FOR FREE. Punk, the guy has never paid for a phone with Sprint. He has them under his thumb, he works his magic better than HMO. (and after HMO, he has more connections than anyone else I know)

But he showed me a bunch of the features, and I think I've just about made my choice. Really his only complaint was battery life. Now I have to figure out how to get a free one and then convince my wife to go with Sprint.

another reason why to get a pre and not an iPhone

http://www.tuaw.com/2009/06/18/atandt-i ... r-a-price/
Citing an exclusive source from within AT&T, appmodo reports that "tethering support is coming later this summer" is AT&T-speak for "tethering support is coming at the end of July."

It won't be coming cheaply, however; appmodo's source says a tethering option will cost AT&T customers a whopping $55 a month.

While this is cheaper than the $70 rumor that's been making the rounds, it still strikes me as ridiculous that AT&T is charging additional money for this option in the first place. Considering their "unlimited" data plan is reportedly only unlimited until you reach 5 GB or so in any given month, it seems preposterous for AT&T to charge their customers an extra fee to use the iPhone to access the internet via tethering. But, since AT&T's wrangling caused Skype to be restricted to WiFi only and SlingPlayer Mobile to be almost totally crippled compared to the same software on different models of smartphones running on AT&T's network, perhaps this shouldn't come as a surprise.

Uh, no. You can't tether a Pre either.

I also don't buy that it'll be anywhere near $55-70 for tethering the iPhone. If it is, I'll eat crow but I think that'd only be AT&T trying to guarantee that no one will use it, which may be what they want.

Do apps have to be approved by apple in any way? Verizon charges something like $20-$30/month for tethering but I'm posting right now tethering through tetherberry. It was a $50 app that gets around tethering fees.

Yes, all apps have to be approved by Apple. Every single one. Which is why it takes forever for apps to get to the app store

Yes, but the easiest way around that for the iPhone is to jailbreak the phone and install whatever you want, including free tethering apps. Although today Engadget posted a link on how to update your carrier profile (as simple as opening a file) such that tethering is enabled.

My point is that there are ways around it if you're slightly technically inclined. For other people, they'll have to wait on AT&T.
