@ West Virginia…. I don’t think we have a legitimate shot of winning, but I do think we will be fairly competitive. (0-1)

vs. North Carolina Central…. Hopefully we won’t be too banged up for this game; either way I see us coming out on top. (1-1)

@ Lafayette… This will be a good test for us on the road early in the season. I could see the game going either way, but I think we are just too inexperienced to win this early in the season on the road. (1-2)

vs. James Madison… Could be a record breaking crowd for this game during the first annual alumni game. JMU has had a lot of personnel losses over the offseason, but they should still prove to be too good for us this year. (1-3)

vs. West Va Wesleyan… A much needed breather to rally the troops after a tough start to the year. (2-3)

vs. Coastal… Homecoming, Coastal… yeah we win. (3-3, 1-0)

@ Charleston Southern… We’ve had CSU’s number during the Rocco era, and I think that will continue. (4-3, 2-0)

vs. Presbyterian… 11/1/08 - Stupid Hose. (5-3, 3-0)

vs. VMI… I think VMI will be good this year, but not good enough to beat us on our home field this late in the season. (6-3, 4-0)

@ Gardner Webb… Bulldog fans claim this is the year they regain the conference championship; I’ve heard that before. (7-3, 5-0)

@ Stony Brook… I’ve gone back and forth on this game since the schedule was released. Stony Brook has a lot returning, and this is a LONG road trip. I just don’t think we’ll make it through the conference schedule unscathed. (7-4, 5-1)

What's yours?

@ West Virginia... Nope, not happening. LU 14- WVU 41 (0-1)

vs. NCC... Can't see us losing this game. LU 41- NCC 10 (1-1)

@Lafayette... I think this team knows how big this game is, and pulls off a Youngstown like win in a very close one. LU 24- Laffy 20 (2-1)

vs. JMU... As much as I want to pick us to win this one, I just can't. If we were returning more players from last year, I would say that the Elon game taught us how to beat this level of competition. I just don't think we have the experience to build off of that experience. LU 21- JMU- 31 (2-2)

vs. WVW... LU 48- WVW 7 (3-2)

vs. Coastal... Too far away from the beach for the chickens. LU 48- CCU 28 (4-2, 1-0)

@ Chuck... CSU stays on the bottom of the BSC while we make our way to the top. LU 50- CSU 17 (5-2, 2-0)

vs. Presby... Slap those Hose. LU 58- PC 7 (6-2, 3-0)

vs. VMI... I agree that VMI will be better this year, but winning in Williams is not a part of being better. LU 38- VMI 21 (7-2, 4-0)

@ GWU... I think we fall into a trap game here, but pull off a close win. LU 28- GWU 24 (8-2, 5-0)

@SBU... With a potential playoff berth on the line, and a long hard fought season behind us, I just can't see us letting this go. We put forth an Elon game effort and shut down the SeaWolves. LU 31- SBU 10 (9-2, 6-0)

HOMER TIME:

I'll try to be realistic.

@ West Virginia…. Same as JC, I think we hang with in 14 or so pts but lose. (0-1)

vs. North Carolina Central…. Easy win. (1-1)

@ Lafayette… I see this as a payback game where the coaches and players come in stoked and 100% prepared. Close win in OT. (2-1)

vs. James Madison… I see this being an absolutely amazing atmosphere. It will be Jammed with JMU folks as well as a Rowdy LU mob. Record crowd no doubt. I think this will be a very close game. I have no idea just how, but I have to believe in my homer heart we pull the upset. It could go either way, but I think we catch a break at home! (3-1)

vs. West Va Wesleyan… Drilling. (4-1)

vs. Coastal… Tighter game than most expect but an ugly low scoring win none the less (5-1, 1-0)

@ Charleston Southern… Bucs improve some, but not enough. (6-1, 2-0)

vs. Presbyterian… 11/1/08 - Smackdown in the BILL. (7-1, 3-0)

vs. VMI… It's VMI and It's our house - WIN!. (8-1, 4-0)

@ Gardner Webb… Tough Defensive battle with a low score but we pull it out. (9-1, 5-0)

@ Stony Brook… Beaten up from a hard fought GW win, Stony Brook takes us out with a 10 pt or better margin. (9-2, 5-1)

OK so maybe I'm crazy but that's who I am. I tried.

Football withdrawal starts the day after our last game of the season, but at least I have basketball to tide me over until March.

Here is my take of the upcoming season

@WV It might be close but the Moutaineers will win this one. (0-1)

VS. NC Central We will win this with ease (1-1)

@Lafayette I think it will be close but I see Lafayette squeaking it out by 6 pts or less (1-2)

VS. James Madison I think if there were any minor injuries, they will be ready to go by this game. Expecting a sellout crowd, LU wins by a last minute field goal (2-2)

VS. WV Wesleyan A route. LU wins by 3 touchdowns (3-2)

VS Coastal I think it will be closer than everyone thinks but LU will pull it out (4-2)

@CSU No questions. Liberty takes this game handidly (5-2)

VS Presby Can we say revenge? (6-2)

VS VMI I think we will be tired by this point. VMI upsets by a touchdown (6-3)

@GW We will look to rebound and will win. (7-3)

@SB Close out the season with another away victory and a BS title (8-3)

If we can keep our losses to WV and another FCS opponent (i.e. Lafayette or JMU) , I see us in the playoffs. If we lose one BS game, I think it puts the nail in the coffin.

I'd have to go with either Manson or the Lefty on JMU. Unless the I-A transfers can all play and are better than people seem to expect (Beecher clearly wins the starting role, etc.), we won't beat them this year.

@WVU - L (50-10)
vs. NC Central - W
@ Lafayette - W (24 - 21) ....this is hoping...
vs. JMU - L (38 - 20)
vs. WV Wesleyan - W

probably 1 loss in conference, maybe 2.

so

7-4 or 8-3

You guys don't even need to say the playoff word. There are only two scenarios that we get in the playoffs, and those include at most one loss.

@ WVU...No Pat White, but they're still pretty good WVU 47 LU 21

North Carolina Central...they're not very good LU 47 NCC 17

@ Laffy...honestly, I don't know much about their personnel losses during the offseason, but they won last year and are at home this year Laffy 24 LU 10

JMU...they're still strong JMU 33 LU 14

WVW...this is a breather game where we take care of business LU 49 WVW 7

Coastal...its always interesting, its always close, but its homecoming LU 23 CCU 20

@ CSU...Chuck South is improving, but still won't be at our level LU 24 CSU 10

Presby...we overlooked them last time, Coach Rocco probably won't let that happen again LU 32 Presby 17

VMI...not going to be able to score big on them like in year's past, but should still win LU 27 VMI 7

@ Gardner Webb...Bulldogs ruled the conference once, and are eager to return, but LU manages to win LU 14 GW 10

@ Stony Brook...UPSET!!! SB 27 LU 24

7-4 overall, 5-1 Big South Co-Champs at worse

I don't think we'll beat JMU, but I don't expect to lose by 19 or 18.

I'm sticking with you guys losing to WVU then running the table.

I can understand the concern about your game at Lafayette, but you have the revenge factor going for you, as well as LU will have two games under their belt at that point, Lafayette will only have a tune-up against Georgetown.

Stony Brook? No upset there, especially if LU only has 1 or 2 losses and any playoff aspirations on the line.

If we have two losses going into Stony Brook, we won't be in playoff contention.

SJ, you could post this once a day from now until the end of the season and we will still have people asking if we can make the playoffs at 8-3.

And I'll say it all the time. There are only two possible scenarios that we get in, and they're even iffy.

I said it before and I'll say it again, playoffs should be the least of our worries this year. I'm hoping we win the conference. (emphasis on the word in italics)

My reasoning for no playoffs isn't because I don't think we have the potential. I really do. They're unproven but they've got a ton of potential. My reasoning is because of the playoff committee. There are only two scenarios where we get in:

a) We pull the shocker against WVU and then win out or lose at most to JMU.

b) I call this the Coastal scenario: We lose at most two games (and that's a stretch) but we beat JMU and JMU is up for an at-large. It would be the same scenario as Coastal in 06. They beat Furman and the committee wanted to put Furman in the playoffs. They couldn't justify putting Furman in but not Coastal, so they put Coastal in as well. This is the most plausible scenario for us, but even that is a stretch.

I cant believe how many people on here have us loosing to JMU at home. I could be completely wrong with this and i understand JMU high talent level but i really think are team and the school atmosphere for that game is going to be best it has ever been, I know me personally and many other students here at liberty have friends who go to JMU , Im sure there will be the most students from liberty there than there ever was, That game will break all of LU's attendance records and we will win

I agree a playoff birth is dim but we could shock the committee this year.

We can shock them all we want, but the two scenarios I listed are the only ways we get in. It's the way it works.
Coaching changes

It appears your intel was on the mark.
