We'll have a new transfer on the offensive side of the ball. Local kid, went to a northeastern school with links to two current basketball coaches in Kentucky. He'll have to sit out a year, but it will help solidify the offense next year.

I don't know recruiting rules. Someone in the know tell me if I can say his name.

Yes, you're allowed to because you're not a coach or on staff. This kid shouldn't be a surprise because we were recruiting him last year out of high school.

He was on campus at the end of last week. He's not the last guy this summer by any means. Our program is very attractive to a lot of people right now.

Great news. He really was not utilized at UMass. With another smaller, quick back maybe will keep reaking havoc in the backfield.

Haha, funny conversation we had on his original thread. And I still think we don't have too many RBs.

We definitely don't anymore. The situation has definitely changed. When you have a player leave school, one tear his knee up a second time, and one switch to linebacker it switches things up. All three of those guys could've easily started and been successful.

Off topic kinda/sorta, but is there any recent news on Peter Rose? other than some speculation that he was on campus about a month ago. Did anyone ever determine if that was him or not?

So what is someone's educated guess of RB depth?

I am going with a girth of 2. I would guess that this guy would be challenging Sir Chuancey for the starter spot. He has a little experience from UMass but Chauncey has had time with our coaches. Either way, this will help develop the younger guys we have.

If Korrey has to sit out a year he wouldnt be challenging for the #1 spot until next summer. The guy with the most carries on last years squad that is returning is Terron Lawrence, but really he wasnt all that good (and he tended to fumble). BJ Hayes I think will take ZTs spot at A-Back and I would not at all be surprised if SirChauncey came out with the starting job this summer.

Bud Foster said that Chase Barnett was the best running back in VA before he got hurt.

A couple of our other running backs are going to be very good.

We're not going to have one guy this year. We're going to have a bunch of guys.

After the 2008 season, Heritage High running back Korrey Davis had narrowed his choices to two schools: Massachusetts and Liberty. The chance to play for a perennial playoff contender in one of the nation’s top FCS conferences — the CAA — was too tantalizing to pass up, so Davis packed his bags for Amherst, Mass., and spent a year playing for the Minutemen.

Davis quickly realized, though, that he missed home, so he began to explore transfer options. Though he initially spurned Liberty, Davis contacted the Flames’ football coaching staff and found the school still had some interest.

Provided he passes an online summer class at UMass, Davis said he will enroll at Liberty in the fall and hopes to be on the field playing for the Flames in the 2010 season.

“They wanted me out of high school, and I knew right off the bat when I was first thinking about moving closer to home, that I had a good opportunity to go to Liberty,” Davis said.

Per NCAA transfer rules, Davis will have to sit out a season. That’s fine with him. He said Thursday he had hoped to redshirt during his freshman year at UMass, but the coaching staff had other ideas, playing Davis in 10 of the Minutemen’s 12 games last season.

“I feel like with a year off lifting weights, getting bigger and faster, it will really help me,” the 5-foot-10, 185-pound Davis said. “It’ll help me become an overall better football player.”

Davis rushed for 1,446 yards and 17 touchdowns as a Heritage senior. As a UMass freshman, he ran for 191 yards on 50 carries and scored twice. Fifteen of those touches and his first career touchdown came during UMass’ loss at nationally ranked Texas Tech.

And honestly, this was the sort of stuff that used to be kept under the hat, so to speak. Now, folks rush to be the ones to post it first on the message board. I have no problems with that, especially considering how plugged in most are on this board compared to similar boards.
