This brings up an interesting question. Does a player have the right to request a trade if they are benched? Or should they have to play out their contract at all cost?
What difference does being benched make? His contract is his contract. Just because he requests a trade doesn't change that nor does it obligate his team to make one.
TD is right....players have a right to ask for whatever they want -- but if the team says no, then they have an obligation to stop whining and sit on the bench as per their contract. Any competitive Athlete is going to WANT a trade to somewhere he can play, that is natural... But at the same time its certainly a virtue to be patient and be a team player.... So how do you balance that? You want a guy that WANTS to be starting, and is uber-competitive -- but you also want a guy that's a good team player....
I've never had a problem with Vince Young -- personally, in this particular situation, I think asking for a trade is the wrong thing to do. You were hurt and in a way you 'lost your job' because of injury -- but its not exactly like there weren't questions about his abilities, the mental side of his game (both on & off the field)....Grow up and prove your a starter by showing up for work, working hard, and then, maybe next year you can demand a trade if your not starting....
