This was one of the others that stood out according to Rocco. Fills a need. While the receivers coming back are all good (Turner, Jackson, Bolden), they're all roughly the same size. Having a 6-5 guy to throw to will help.

You'll notice quite a few jumpball passes on the highlight reel. He seems to not only be big but athletic as well.

Definitely would make a decent possession receiver

Here's an interesting twist on Cedric's signing from a Marco Island (FL) Sun Times story about the eight players from his high school who signed letters of intent:
... basketball standout Cedric Sanderson will play for a Division I-AA school. He committed to Liberty University in Virginia, where he will play wide receiver and - hopefully - walk onto the basketball team.

I had dinner with Coach Rocco the other night (meeting type thing) but we were talking and this was one of the first names he said and looks for good things....does anyone remember last name Thomas (I think) and they called him Franchise but he had to stop playing due to a heart problem....talk about our players making a name for themselves at the next level, that kid was well on his way

I think that might be a good question for Coach Dunton. Since Cedric has signed a letter of intent there is no longer any restriction on coaching talking about him. Perhaps that question could be asked in the new thread HMO started in the mens hoops forum.

As for his football-playing abilities, he certainly looked good in the video.

but how likely/feasable is it to be a SUCCESSFUL double athelete in D1 sports these days?

point taken! still- a daunting task, esp in 2 sports whose seasons run back to back and actually overlap substantially.

Two-sport stars area dying breed in this era of specialization. But they still happen. Texas A&M has a true freshman who was their starting TE and is contrubuting on the court as well right now (after wisely pulling himself out of the NBA Draft). Tony Gonzalez helped Cal in both sports and Marcellus Rivers did as well for Okie State a couple of years back.

Generally most football coaches either have a policy against it or they strongly discourage the practice for fear of injury.

anyone remember Mark Reed? He pulled it off a few years ago playing Baseball and Basketball...and those are the two toughest sports to play at the D1 level due to the timing of the seasons

I believe you mean Daniel Thomas who was a receiver for us. I believe he stayed with the team through the rest of his college career, as he helped with all te gameday video.

After watching the highlight video, I believe this young man will be at TE. Hopefully he is a kid that likes to be physical and not just with CBs, because he will be going against DEs and LBs. He could end up being a nightmare for the defense, running down the seam with a LB chasing him after play-action.

Welcome to the board, oldcoach. I have to admit that was my first reaction when I saw his size as well. Based on our new offense we will need a big pass-catching TE. Its hard to tell much from the videos about his overall speed. That would seem to be the decision maker.

Thanks for the welcome Sly Fox - when watching the video it appears that his first 3-4 steps are not that explosive, when I say that I am refering to SE abilities. If this young man isn't real physical then he will stay at SE.

Its rare to find big WRs who are explosive out of the box (it takes awhile to get those long legs moving). There aren't many Randy Moss, Roy Williams or Larry Fitzgerald-types out there. But having a big SE can pay bigtime dividends.

Ditto the welcome to OC. Also, anyone with hands should be a huge improvement- speed is a great bonus. I can't tell you how many dropped passes we had last year at TE and WR.

Throw in decent RAC ability w/ this kid or others and he's a threat- have I mentioned how much I'm looking forward to FB season?

I even tried interview Karcher about that one and boy he just didn't get it. With all the options this year, should be exciting.
