Everyone has told me Great Taste is the best Chinese place. I don't eat Chinese but I do know that the flyer hung in the dorms says, "We Delivery" and I find that funny.

Actually I think a PeiWei woukld do better in Lynchburg and the franchise & startup costs would be much lower (but you have the same awesome lettuce wraps).

ahhh the lettuce wraps....they are the best thing I've ever tasted and I hate lettuce! Your right about that and being more of a college town then ever I believe it would be just as successful, I believe both would profit but I think your right about that...I need 1 more year though before its reality

PF Changs is over rated. Good, but very "Americanized"

In the 'burg, I am a HUGE fan of Kings Island. Their Kung Po Chicken or Beef is the best I have had!!!

On your the storefront side of things (More Japanese then Chinese) I don't know names, but I like the one next to the Kroger on Timberlake the best. KYOTO used to be my fav Japenese food, but they have gone down hill. I must confess though I am allergic to Yum Yum Sauce.

And while on the topic of rice... Anyone tried out the Indian food at MILAN??

Tokyo Express is the one on Timberlake, and it is the best. Also, Osaka is dirty. The food isn't bad, but I can't eat in a dirty restaurant.

I did not care for Milan. Blech.

I saw something similar at The Dirty Panda (aka Shanghai Express) on Wards Road once. The guy hocked a nice loogey right over the grill into the trash can on the other side. Yes, while he was cooking food.

Whatever happened to the old Eggroll Express on Ward's Road? Those 99-cent egg rolls were a serious meal back in the day.

Loogies aside, Shanghai Express probably has the best Chinese in town, and the best prices. Where else can you get a good Chinese meal for around $4? I haven't tried every Chinese place in Lynchburg, but nothing else so far has come close in quality or price. King House (in the Food Lion shopping center on 29 South) is decent Iif a little pricey for takeout), as is Good Taste (although far from the best in town, I'll eat there on the occasional Sunday afternoon since Shanghai is closed). The only place I know of that I wouldn't recommend is the Lucky Kitchen, in the Graves Mill Shopping Center. They pull stuff from their sorry buffet a lot of the time, and their food in general isn't all that great.

Good Taste is just alright... not impressive. The best Chinese in town is still Shanghai, followed by King House.

Let me ask a "heady" question - what the heck are the criteria for determining whether or not its good Chinese/Asian - one place's cat meat is leaner - the meat was fried two days ago as opposed to a week ago ? I'm with PA - "good Chinese" is an oxymoron.
