I'll admit Matt, I'm embarrasingly out of the loop in regards to a lot of this because of the 1) basketball coach drama and 2) eight-game Hillcat homestand. Both have prevented me from getting out to football much.

Receiver, quarterback and running back will probably be unsettled after camp because some of the key players aren't here right now -- Holloway at tailback, the USC transfer at receiver (who still has to gain NCAA transfer clearance). Garner will figure in prominently at receiver, and who knows how Beecher will fit in once he gets on campus.

Jon's right on the defense ... has a chance to be very good. Bannon moved to end and Cheek looked great in the one practice I saw at weakside backer. Bolt could suprise some people at the Mike. Giddens fits prominently into the strongside plans. Claiborne's got big upside at safety, considering the experience he gained in key games last year.

Jon has a much better grasp on this than I do. Looking forward to seeing how they look Saturday.

After watching a few practices my main concern is the lack of competition at the center position. I seems like Mario is getting dominated at the line and we don’t really have another guy that is competing against him for the spot. We have been so blessed with Mike for the last four years but I think this is going to be the biggest drop off compared to last year.

Scary. I'm not used to seeing penetration into the O line very often. Let's hope that gets worked out so I don't have to be out of my comfort zone. 8)

We return Vargas, Stadler, Weaver, and Mosier. That's four pretty good guys with some experience. The center position is the biggest hole to fill.

You can always help the center by doubling down, or getting him help in pass pro, but that detracts from the edge somewhat. Two experienced and talented guards will help as Mario gets acclamated. Schemes are adjusted to the strengths of the o line unit. Adjustments will take some time, more so than 3 d-linemen trying to push your face through your exit hole. Advantage defense at this point.

I was on the field tonight. A play was about 20 yards from me. Giddens shed a block and went after the ball carrier. I was scared for my own life at that point, and I wasn't even close.

What am I saying?

He's a freak.

From the SID's:
the three-time Big South Coach of the Year has named rising redshirt sophomore Mike Brown his starting quarterback for the annual spring game.

I like Landis i really do, but i think i timed his throwing motion last year and it was twice as long as Brock's. You gotta be able to get out of the pocket and get rid of the ball if needed. I haven't seen Mike throw a ton so ill be interested to see him at the spring game.

Off-season surgery. He's done some stuff in practice but he's been in a non-contact jersey and it's hard to play a live game as an offensive lineman in a non-contact jersey.
