Lynchburg, VA - Wednesday is "Team of the Week" day on ABC-13 Sports. We spotlight Lynchburg's 4-5 USTA tennis team. This is the Hill City's highest-rated team that followed up a state championship with an undefeated run through sectionals this past weekend, defeating top teams from Maryland, D.C., Virginia and West Virginia.

Now it's on to the National Team Championships in Hawaii October 6th through the 8th. This is just the second Lynchburg team to ever qualify for Nationals, the other a ladies team 20 years ago. Ages of team members are wide-ranging, from 21 to 55.

David Basten, Lynchburg Team Captain - "We're winning a lot of tiebreakers, a lot of 10-point tiebreakers. I think we've only lost one 10-point tiebreaker this whole way through. These guys are scrappy and they want to win. That's what separates us right now."

Freddy Lawson, Undefeated in Doubles - "I think everybody kind of mixes well together, gets along well together. And that chemistry is good, everybody plays well together. So it makes for a winning combination."

Other team members include new Liberty U. tennis coach Chris Johnson, Walter Basten, Ryan Gordon, Earl Weaver, Mike Jacob, Rodney Duncan, Buzz Frey, Chuck Cox, Kenan Bell, Mike Hendricksen, Colin Malcolm and Joe Carroll.
