While trying to figure out why they killed Kutner off on House I found this:

Penn, of Harold and Kumar go to White Castle fame, has become increasingly politically aware and vocal, campaigning for then US Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama [Images] throughout 2007 and 2008. Not only did he provide a fresh, recognisable face to the Obama Express, he also used social media tools like blogging and Twitter to help energise America's youth vote.

Evidently, his loyalty to the now-US President has been rewarded, as Penn was recently offered the position of Associate Director in the White House Office of Public Liason. And while the pay ain't great, the prestige is; which is why Penn is jumping at the opportunity.

I don't even know what that position is but it seems crazy for Obama to have a dude who is an icon for pot smokers working on his staff. Not to mention they also had a movie about making fun of Gitmo. Seems a little inappropriate.

I don't see the big deal. If the Obama administration thinks he can do a good job in that position, then what does it matter if he played a pot-smoking character in a movie? He's an actor, just because he played a pot-smoker doesn't make him one (not sure if he is or not). Ronald Reagan played a character in 'The Killers' that planned an armored car heist, hires hitmen, and slaps a woman...it didn't have any bearing on his ability to be governor or president.
