Well we began working on the show on the field last night. We have also picked up a few new faces across the board so we are now about 165 people in the band. We had a band activity tonight and tomorrow afternoon, we continue memorizing the music and should be about done with the second song in the field drill sometime tomorrow

I know I am largely talking to myself here but I just though Id let you know that Rashad Jennings, Chris Stokes and Dan Hughes from the football team came by tonight and said a few words to the band about how important we are during the game.

now when is the last time that happened? but anyway that is very cool and hopefully they encouraged the band to work hard too.
I believe the band and the entire football team are gettin together Monday(?) night for the fight song. I can honestly say that I have been around LU since 1993 and, until Coach Rocco made us learn them this June, I had no idea what the lyrics to the fight song were.
"I invite all the young champions on Liberty Mountain to come up and rub my woolly mustache."
I love that coach is doing this. We had a thread about the song a while ago and 1 person knew the words. I've always thought it would be cool if the spectators/students sang after we won. Rocco's initiative in conjunction with what SJ is doing will ensure that the song will become a lot more important.
*please disregard this post if dated before 2017 and accept my apologies*

that may be, but I was on vacation! thanks for the updates though!
You are quite welcome. We had a day off today and tomorrow we get back to work. Dr Kerr is gonna spend most of teh morning session writing the drill for the last two songs (and rumor has it he has some pretty nice drill and VE *visual effect* planned for those songs too) and we have that fellowship with the football team after our evening practice. apparently there will be some singing involved so I will let you know how that goes.

Well the fellowship with the team last night was amazing. The band played some of our tunes for the team, and the football team actually sang the fight song for us (complete with hand motions). Some of those guys actually can carry a pretty decent tune! Oh and after the fun and merriment on the field, we went up to the concourse and they had ice cream waiting for us!
Well this morning is the final practice for the 2006 band camp. Regular rehearsals begin Wednesday at 2:55. We are almost done with the show, we have to do the reprise and that is it. We will then spend the rest of this week and next cleaning up the show and working on pregame and halftime entry and the tunnel.

Chances are Coach Rocco taught it to them. I know that the freshmen would be seen in the dining hall standing on chairs and doing it for everybody (something I never saw happen my first 4 years here)

Well band camp 2006 is now history. we finished the last song today in the drill. Tomorrow is our first regular "class" and we will set right to work on the finale, the we start polishing up the show and setting up pregame and halftime entry.

Well tomorrow is the debut performance for the 2006 edition of the Liberty University Marching Band, the Spirit of the Mountain. Unfortunately we didn't get the entire show learned (we didn't learn all the drill for the finale because Dr Kerr only just wrote the drill I think end of last week). It will be over 160 strong though (and very possibly wearing ponchos because of the threat of rain)

I can't believe I'm posting in the band section, but I couldn't resist that tidbit (albeit old info); not only do we have an official fight song, but there are handmotions to it as well?...what does that look like? As far as handsignals/motions, it seems that Florida State, University of Florida and University of Texas have co-opted any decent ones (relatively speaking of course, since hand motions for songs can be corny anyway.)
I liked last years better, but that's just because I knew more of the tunes. It's too bad that the band misses just about all of the third qtr and we're left to not have any music when we score. I appreciate you guys playing in the rain though.

Not a problem...we got a few sick folk as a result though...
