How many people said the same thing about Russell Monroe?

I don't remember that Monroe was a big recruiting coup for us. I think you and I raised the flag on him when we found out he was from "Butternut Home School".

Upon further review, we beat out Central Michigan. Said Monroe in the write up I saw:
"“They’re playing some good competition,” Monroe said. “They told me they won’t redshirt me as long as I don’t want it. They want me to try out right away and get used to the competition.”

Monroe, averaging 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, hasn’t lost track of the enormous challenges he’ll face going from home school basketball to the Division I level.

“I need to get in better physical shape,” he said. :

Monroe was a project from the start....I'm also interested as to how serious CM was with him. These were offers from big schools not just the letters in the mail like we all got back in High School

LU hires former assistant Layer to succeed McKay
By Chris Lang
Published: April 9, 2009

Dale Layer, who served as an assistant coach at Marquette University this past season after occupying the same role under Richie McKay at Liberty in 2008, was introduced as LU’s new head men’s basketball coach on Wednesday after McKay accepted an assistant job at Virginia last week

It's easy to say that, but he has moved three times in 2 years.
He said at the presser that his wife needed to be back in the South. While I am sure he gained valuable experience at Marquette, as a family man I believe he sees it as a mistake to go to Milwaukee.

No way a mistake, but more of a confirmation.

Others who were under consideration for the job were Liberty assistant coach Brad Soucie, Oklahoma assistant Mark Cline, Virginia Tech assistant Ryan Odom, former Penn State head coach and current Michigan assistant Jerry Dunn and former South Florida coach Robert McCullum.
I was not expecting that name to be there. I know of him from up there and he was an excellent recruiter and good coach that took them to the sweet 16 while at PSU.

Dunn was actually one of the ones I knew about strangely. I knew nothing was coming of it. The way they kept this quiet was absolutely fantastic.

It's kind of sad when one of our players transfers and we got 10 pages within an hour but when we hire a new coach, it's barely a drop in the bucket.

No I didn't. The only thing I said was our opinions didn't matter and that the decision was likely already made.

I have no clue what you're talking about.

Edit: wait, that was Lang's first list that was just Soucie, Layer, and Wilson. At that time, I knew about Cline as well and that's who I was wanting. I also didn't think Barber would hire an assistant/former assistant because of his past hires.

And Nate Campbell might play too, he has been in contact with Coach Layer. The answer to our problem is really solved now.

Tim Layer and Nate Campbell would be solid walk-ons. I think it would help us for practice and each could possibly give us a few minutes a game.
