I just want to remind everyone...Dale Layer getting this job is a GREAT GREAT thing for our program and school as a whole. He's responsible for players like Carter McMasters being here. He has previous relationships with several of our recruits and HATES MOVING....can I repeat that HE HATES MOVING

I know the point you're making but a few here would say that shows that this is not a good thing. And by a few, I mean Rocketfan. Bummer about Soucie though. Looks like UVA is turning into Liberty Jr. It's like the opposite of football. Maybe the guys who aren't cutting it here will start to transfer to C'ville.

People can say what they want about Carter now...but we had to beat out SEVERAL big schools to land this kid...he's going to be good but like 90% of the big men out there it takes a lot more time to see the fruits then guards....but you will see the fruits and watch him spread the court for us

I doubt the rumor is true, but if it is, at least he is waiting until the current coach was gone instead of lobbying for the job behind his boss's back.

UVA is not going to be offering scholarships to any of our recruits, so they will not be playing for Soucie/McKay. Their choice will be between coming to LU where they had commited and playing for the coaches we have, or starting over and looking at their other options.

Having followed this discussion the last few days and all the talk of whether or not recruits come I think that the best way to offer my thoughts as to whether the team will get behind Coach Layer and whether or not the commits we have now will sign is to mention two principles from a book Ive started reading:

First, "Give honest and sincere appreciation". Im sure he will have a chance to see just what these guys are all about and if he reaches out and offers genuine appreciation in their commitment to LU and second "Arouse in the other person (in this case the recruit) an eager want". If he can instill in them that he is truly interested in them and can instill in them that he is truly interested in them and not purely for his own reasons and motivations, Id be willing to think that all of them will come.

at this point you cant say getting mcmasters was good or not, he has to prove something first. What we will have is a team of unprovens once again ahha

Whether or not McMasters pans out is certainly part of the talent evaluation portion of coaching/recruiting, however the fact that he landed him when big boys were on him is part of that as well. I'd say more important because he shows it can be done. By him. Our new head coach.

It's easy to say that, but he has moved three times in 2 years.
