I dont know...first round position players dont move quite as quickly as pitchers do. The Carolina league is no joke. I wouldnt be surprised if he's batting .300 after the first 2 weeks. This is known as a pitchers league.

Top prospects have started to move at a faster pace...especially with the economy the way it is. Add to it his time in the SEC, he'll make a brief stop in AA and then to the big leagues by the end of the year, IMO.

It's possible...Pirates of the past havent shown signs of this and I havent been around the new front office long enough to get a feel as to their beliefs. If the Pirates were to be in a position for a playoff push (I dont see happening) then I could agree...if not I think this entire year will be in the minors...but it really depends on what kind of start he gets here in Lynchburg.

The pirates will not be able to hang with the rest of the division. No way they are close to being in the playoff race

yeah, I keep warning the league that I think they have aspirations beyond Carolina league but nobody seems to think so. It wouldnt be the most convenient location to go AA but I still think it's possible

The Mudcats are the only AA anywhere near by if I'm not mistaken. Unless Greensboro wants to go up (which low A to AA is a big jump) I just don't see Winston moving up. We're a big time A state, both low and high. Kinston, Winston, Asheville, Kannapolis, Hickory, and Greensboro are all A ball. Then there's the Mudcats at AA and Charlotte/Durham at AAA.

This guy is a Pirates prospect... so he'll be in the minors a looooong time... plenty of duds in this lineup (although McCutchen is pretty good prospect)

2008 Pedro Alvarez
2007 Daniel Moskos
2006 Brad Lincoln
2005 Andrew McCutchen
2004 Neil Walker
2003 Paul Maholm
2002 Bryan Bullington
2001 John VanBenschoten
2000 Sean Burnett
1999 Bobby Bradley

I wasn't saying that everyone on the list stinks, I was just saying that you don't have a track record of success with every pick the Pirates made. John VanBenchoten spent some time in Lynchburg and he flamed out; Bryan Bullington was a former #1 overall (and he played in Lynchburg) and he was a dud too.

No Ed...you are pretty much dead on...there is not a fantasy baseball keeper in the bunch. The Pirates for years drafted based on signability...and you see what that gets you.
