El Scorcho wrote:The album you're referring to is "S&M" (Symphony & Metallica) from 1999.
They were not playing with Apocalyptica. Apocalyptica is a four-piece cello group that covers metal songs, mostly Metallica.
On the S&M album, Metallica played with the San Fransisco Symphony and Michael Kamen was the guest composer/conductor. It was brilliant and is a great double-disc set. The DVD is even better. And yes, they played a ton of their old stuff. It was the first time they had played "Call of Ktulu" (from Ride the Lightning) since 1986. IMHO, the version of Battery (from the Master of Puppets album) on S&M was the best I'd ever heard it played.
The S&M ablum is probably the best ablum I have ever heard. I love it!
I had a roommate in military school (another story for another thread) who played Metallica in the room a ton. The first album of theirs I heard was S&M. Most enjoyable thing I had heard to that point. Id love to get some of the songs off that album
