Well this is the time KK should be on the phone starting to get them here. Even if we just brought in some better teams (not saying they are great teams, but probably better than some of the schools we have in the BS) it would be a better situation.

Add what's going on at Fordham to this whole mess and everything's starting to come together.
Yeah, I've heard rumors from time to time about UNC-W wanting out of the CAA because of the travel. They along with Georgia State are the two southern-most outliers and really get the short end of it concerning travel. Wouldn't surprise me if Ga State felt the same as UNC-W.
There is no way GSU wants to get out of the CAA right now. With a start up football program the CAA is a huge recruiting tool. They also just got a new AD. and are trying to raise the quality of their overall athletics. they won't leave the CAA anytime soon unless it splits like everyone thinks it will in the next 5-10 years.

I didn't mean that GSU would be wanting to leave the CAA. I just meant that they probably don't like the travel situation as much as UNC-W.

oh definitly not. I wouldn't want to pay for driving a baseball team from Atlanta to Philly but i guess its the price they pay for staying in the CAA

I really think this whole Fordham thing could be what starts everything. You'll have three scholarship teams in the northeast with no home.

Well there isnt much else out there. Our choices, geographically are

ACC
Big East
MAC?
CUSA?
CAA (which is way too full, and like i said we are better off waiting til it splits...)
SoCon
Which is part of the dilemma. We are by no means ready to be in a ACC, Big East, SEC, and most likely we never will be. But the big south really is the joke of the NCAA. I think if the CAA split and was teams who were interested in 10 years moving up or something and we could get in, that would be ideal

Most of the time I agree with you on that point. However, look at the CAA. It may not be football or basketball that breaks that league up. It may be the fact that women's tennis has to travel from UMass to Georgia St to play or something like that. It could be the olympic sports that end up tearing apart that conference, and I can only hope they do.
Wasn't aware of that. What a scene that would be if a bunch of women's tennis coaches set off a conference realignment.

I don't want to see "ACC", "Big East" or "SEC" in a thread about Liberty changing conferences ever again.

Who is talking about LU going to any of those conferences?

Yeah, I just mentioned the conferences that we match up with geographically, to make the point that we don't belong in them at this point.

Ah. Outside of one guy asking if we'll ever become a power program I don't see any of the conference talk revolving around the ACC, Big East or SEC. 99% of any conference talk centers around FCS conferences like the CAA and Southern.

Here is what is simply wrong with Liberty Athletics, and I can speak from experience. When I put 1.25 into a drink machine and actually push a button that says DIET PEPSI and even has a nice enticing picture on the button to make sure that I WANT Diet Pepsi, is it too much to ask, or even imagine that a DIET PEPSI will emerge from the machine?? THis apparently is too difficult a task for those that be at LU. Not at one game, not at two games but at 3 games, instead of the nice refreshing DIET PEPSI I requested from the machine I received a MT DEW. These two beverages look absolutely nothing alike. One is in a nice bottle with a green shade and the liquid itself is a light green color. As for the OTHER one, it is a dark liquid in a clear bottle and a blue wrapper. Now the problem may be that the person filling the machine didn't see the words DIET PEPSI or MOUNTAIN DEW on the bottle. Maybe it was a Sport Management major performing some odd Sport Sociology project. But the bottom line is this. If we can't have people who know the difference between DIET PEPSI and MOUNTAIN DEW then how are we EVER going to be taken seriously.
Thank you for the forum!

You realize that the drink machines are not done by Liberty athletics, right?

The Patriot League does not hand out athletic scholarships per se. They use a mathematical formula -- referred to as the Acadmic Index -- that doles out financial aid based on income and need (ie., what the student-athlete can pay for themselves). For the NCAA's purpose, the amount of need-based aid that the school hands out cannot exceed the equivalent of 63 full scholarships.

Needless to say, this system is rather cumbersome and complicated when compared to the simple "here's a scholarship" model that most schools utilize. Further, the Patriot League changed the formula by which their schools will disperse aid and Fordham feels that the new AI puts them at a disadvantage to the rest of the conference. Currently, most Patriot schools hand out about 58 of a possible 63 financial aid "equivalencies" but Fordham's ultimatum isn't so much about adding to that number as it is about changing over to the purely scholarship model.

Leaving the Big South as a head coach to be an assistant with a bottom tier ACC school.

Tells you all you need to know about the big south.

Ha.

I'm sure he's not the only one who views an assistant ACC job as a step up over a Big South HC position.

Whatever. You guys sit and have a Big South pity party. Cry about it for everything. We are never at fault, and things dont happen for any reason other than the Big South.

You guys are ridiculous.

Yeah, they're probably calling the ACC crying. PLEASE LET US IN, WE WILL NEVER EVER SUCCEED WITHOUT YOU!

We will never make the Big Dance, never have a successful women's team, never go to nationals in track and field, never be in a solid baseball conference, ever! We'll never get an autobid to the football tournament! They will make us lose every coach, including our women's coach who has been here forever and our track coach. They will make us lose good players. Man, I wish the ACC would let us in because the Big South is ruining us! Wahhhhh!
