That's great! Perhaps the enthusiasm for the REAL sports of football and basketball can trickle down to the JUNK sports.

critic, you can keep doing that, but people will still continue to talk about "junk"

Critic is right. I'm tired about talking about junk. Let's throw the junk in the trunk and start talking about the Flames Club and the great job they're doing.

trying to get off the junk topic and frankly i am tired of even talking about it. this thread is about the flames club not junk. if you want to start another thread about that then be my guest.

I like the girl with the junk in the trunk.

Ok, on a side note, the Flames Club and Student Flames Club looks to be doing very well this year.

It's going pretty good. We've got a lot of members, but I'm wondering how involved some of them will actually be. They are in the group which is good, and hopefully we can influence them to be more involved than they would be normally. There are some things I would like to do but they're just simply not feasible right now and that's understandable. A first year club can't do everything right out of the gate. I've got two meetings about it next week so we'll see after that. We weren't planning it, but I found out not too long ago that we're going to have a "yell practice" (looking for another name, Sly) on the Wednesday before the first game. If you've got any ideas for us to try to use (anyone for that matter) send them to me and I'll see what can get done. I think it's going to be very successful this year, but 07-08 is the year I think it'll really take off insanely huge.

what ever you do, dont script things. no cheer sheets. no premeditated stuff. I've always thought that stuff like that goes against the spirit of cheering.

There won't be cheer sheets, but what'll happen is we want people to know the basics. I want people to know what the fight song is, and know the words to it. I want to do something other than chant "Elllll Yoooouuuuu" over and over. I'd love to get a call and answer chant similar to Ohio State's O-H...I-O or Coastal's C-I...N-O. I just can't come up with anything. We also want people to know the different chants and cheers during things the band does. There are a ton of drum cadences that have chants in them that if the entire student section does it, will sound very good.

For Wednesday night, please don't call it yell practice. The last thing we need to do is build an Aggie Cult East. How about these:

Ignition
Operation Firestarter
Fire Drill

Yeah, those are fairly lame. Anybody else have anything?

And if you guys still need a temporary forum until the offical site gets done, I can open a new forum on this board for the Sudent Flames Club to meet and get organized. Just let me know.

I don't know what we'll call it yet. Yell practice was said because I knew of that and knew that name. Check your PM.

Fire Drill! That sounds pretty good. I know you can't yell FIRE in a theater, but I bet you can sure yell FLAMES!

Another thing, just as a point of reference, SCREAM at Coastal is by far the most organized an dbest travelling group of any in the Big South. Last year there were something around 70-100 members (closer to 70 the first semester). That just gives you an idea of how big this club is.

I like the "Fire Drill" idea. Hype it up like the Midnight Madness for the first official basketball practice. If you can introduce the students to the players and the program, they are more likely to connect with them and support the team.

One upside to the increase enrollment is that there SHOULD be more butts in the stands on Saturdays. I vote for doing anything it takes to increase the attendance. There is nothing worse than a normal November game with 400 people in the stands. Who wants to be a part of that?

good. my girlfriend goes to ODU and when im not on a trip or something i go over there and watch them play bball. they have a great student section! Everyone's favorite thing to do is cheer along with that song that goes, HEY! (i dont know the name lol) but they spell out their initials.. O.....D.....U.... and then some words that are not appropriate. but other than that it's great

Most schools do that with The Hey Song. Coastal would do the hey's and then say, "Go Coastal, Go Coastal, Go Coastal, Go" in rhythm. JMU students say, "JMU says to..." well, the rest is out of the Liberty Way.

I'm guessing ODU says, "We're gonna be the h--- out of you" like most schools.

That sounds too much like Coastal's fight song (Sock em, bust em, that's out custom, Coastal, Carolina). We'll figure out something.

We used to say "Hey! You suck!" much like every other school. It made for a good time. And then Jerry scolded us. If you listen real hard you can hear people still saying it.
