Don't let them convince you that you're getting a great deal since they're going out of business because you're not.

Noted. Do you think you can haggle the price down since they are going out of business?

Probably not because some moron will snatch it up because they say it's 30% off and it's the last one they have.

The prices are not that great. I was at the CC in Roanoke this week. They are the equivalent of sale prices elsewhere, but at CC you get the joy of having no warranty at all (other than manufacturers). If you walk out the door, it is yours. You go home, plug it in and it does not work, you are hosed.

Yeah, on these liquidation sales there is always someone who is a bigger moron than you so there is never any truly GREAT deals. Things are sold before it gets to that point. A couple of companies already bought a lot of their stock anyway. TigerDirect is one of them, which coincidentally is where I bought my last TV.

I also visited the CC in Roanoke this week and it appeared that they had alot of tvs available but when I finally found someone to help me (all the sales floor employees were wearing jackets so people wouldnt bother them) everything i was interested in was not in stock. There were no signs to indicate what they had or didnt have. and as mentioned before the deals were not that great. the only good deals i saw was on car audio since most of that was 40% off.

to answer your original question i would say LCD. the issues with IR and burn in on plasmas scare me too much to buy one, and i know they say that most newer tvs dont get IR or burn in but i would hate to spend alot of money and then find that the "experts" were wrong.

I am looking at replacing my Olevia 37" that has power issues. Olevia went bankrupt over last summer so Im not getting much help from them. When I can afford it i hope to replace it with a 40'' Samsung

If you watch a lot of sports, plasma is the way to go. I got it and love it. The Panasonic 80U or 85U series sets are about the best for the price out there. If you go LCD...Sony Bravia or Samsung seem to get about the best reviews.

I was under the impression that LCD's only go up to a certain size.

Go to WalMart and get a Vizio. It will be cheaper, less haggle and you'll be in and out with 20 minutes.

I got the 42" Plasma and absolutely love it.

plasma's don't last as long as LCD's from what I've heard.

+1

I got a 42" 1080p Vizio LCD from Sam's Club and I am 100% happy with it. I know it's not top of the line, but it's perfect so far as my needs go.

i have a vizio plasma and a lg lcd. vizio is 42, lg is 37"

i like both. both meet the requirements of the room they are in. as far as a better picture the plasma is better. and thats what i've noticed generally. plasma's picture just works better for me.

they are heavier and use more juice though.

don't worry about longevity and burn in as thats not been an issue with plasma's for years.

So Pioneer is quitting the TV business, and these guys see that as a sign that plasma TV's are going the way of the dodo. That would be too bad.

no unfortunately i think its a sign that pioneer has lost its appeal as a name brand product. their sales were terrible because as great as their tv's were, most people generally associate pioneer with junk. not top end. like if all of the sudden sanyo made the greatest plasma in the world and was one of the most expensive. most would be hard pressed plop down the money for it.

noone saw their premier stuff....same thing with them in the car audio world.

videophiles weren't enough to keep pioneer and their 5 grand tv's afloat.
