No need to feel sorry for us Coastalfan. We were pretty optomistic about the QB position before we first heard Tommy Beecher's name mentioned. If he's good enough to beat out Landis and Brown, then we are a better team. If he's not, he won't play, and that will be that. There's not going to be a quarterback controversy on a team coached by Danny Rocco.

Surely, a true "Coastal" Carolina fan isn't going to be very happy if Tommy Beecher should somehow find success in that Yankee lovin' land of Virginia.

I tend to take the middle in this debate. I dont think the guy would transfer here without a good shot at Playing time with only a year eligibility. That being said I dont think Rocco can or will hand him the job either. I believe the best man will win the job and Rocco will put him under center for the first game. That being said I think it's a great move for us, low risk as well. If he's not the best qb on the roster then he provides more depth and increases competition. It could also allow Mike Brown another year to be an all out threat for us while still getting some snaps at QB. Either way I think this is a low risk potentially high reward pick up

A quote from SJ on AGS that I thought should be posted over here:

Everybody has one!

Look, I already stated my opinion. But bottom line, I trust Coach Rocco. He has a plan, and the new OC will have a lot to do with that. It is wide open at a ton of posistions and a ton could happen between now and the first game. I will say that the offensive talent on this team is scary and deep. WOW!

I was talking to a USC fan and some what of an insider. He told me he personally would want to start a QB who has big atmosphere experience and who went into spring ball picked as the ole ball coach's go to guy, after all where do we open the season? I respect this man's opinion and I agree completely with it and other things surrounding his opinion.

I spent alot of time following the Gamecocks this season and went to a few games down in Columbia (Nothing better than SEC football in person) But I think that Beecher will have a great shot to win the starting job. I am sure this has been mentioned but not having him for spring ball is going to hurt.

Beecher has a pretty good arm, but Garcia is the future in Columbia and there is no secret about that. As one coach told me, the worst that can happen is that he makes the other QB's in the program better and we all know that competition is a good thing. Having him available for West Va will help out because he has played on the big stage before, but Rocco has done his homework and knows that he is getting a smart QB. Good move on the programs part.

I'm curious about this whole "doesn't wanna get hit" thing.

I'm sure its been blown WAY outta proprotion, but I'd really like to hear from the horse's mouth on this one. And I serious ly doubt that will ever happen. Maybe Sam Steele can ask him before she leaves?

Either way, its never too early to start talking college football. Unless you're a Winthrop fan.

Hoping to get down for the spring game. :pray

If you haven't figured coastalfan out all he's here for is to start trouble. He has pretty much stated this on cockytalk. As far as what he says there is no truth to it. Tommy had no practice time with the first team before the Clemson game and felt that Chris would be the better choice as QB. He didn't refuse to play. I am a friend of the Beecher family and and I fully trust that what I'm told is the truth. I think that it is great that Tommy still has the desire to play and that he has landed in a place that will give him that chance along with the opportunity to grow with God. Except for a few, most of the people on cockytalk wish Tommy all the best. Let me say one more thing coastalfan. I don't appreciate you bashing David Bennett. As a longtime Catawba fan I think that Coach Bennett was the best thing to Get Coastal Carolina up and running in football. If your're such a S. Carolina fan you should be screaming for the admin in Columbia to run Spurrier out of town. His football mind is over, gone to mush! If he can't get the JOB done next year you all need to stay mired below mediocrity.

Why would spurrier on multible occasions state that then? I linked 2 to articles from a paper and a forum discussing his comments live on the radio. Why didnt he play at any other point after the opener when he got nailed and threw 4 picks?

I dont doubt he has the desire to play, just the fear is stronger. Afriad of SEC caliber?

Bennett sucks and that can be proved by the fact he keeps a D coordinator who has near bottom in the nation rush D for 6 years running since the birth of our program. You should go to our forums, there is a 20 page thread on this horrible coordinator. As a coastal fan you obivously saw the mutlible times bennett was booed this season. Specially the liberty game, 6 qb draws in a row anyone? Hell theres threads on AGS discussing his suckage. It must be nice to go 11-12 with a 1.5 million buyout and a 10 year contract extension. he really took CCU for a ride with that one

Spurrier being your god doesnt make him a football mastermind

Where did that swagger go you guys had the first few years in football? You guys has those peacock feathers up...look at the bright side, if the BSC starts giving points for rap sheets you guys may have a dynasty as far as the SASSER Cup is concerned

I dunno, but he's here now, and out from under Spurrier's over-analysing, over-coaching, and annoying indecisivness regarding QB's. This is going to be a quality second chance for Beecher. My guess is that he'll take full advantage of the opportunity and make the most of it.

Sure, some people are gonna call him names. But Tommy will have a chance to answer that on the gridiron.

Only downside if Beecher does play is the year after we will be starting over with a third QB in three years. I hope its not, but if next year turns out to be a rebuilding year, we might as well get a younger QB in there. But let's hope thats not the case.

Having the same QB for 3+ years like we had with Brock is the exception rather than the rule in college football. If Beecher wins the job this year it will be because he's better, and whoever wins the job the next year will almost certainly be someone who has been in the program at least 2-3 years. The idea of 3 starters in 3 years doesn't bother me at all.

I've got to go with dooda here. Spurrier is a jerk who will say anything to deflect the blame for losses from him and onto the players. I tend to think of all those poor kids as prisoners of their coach at this point and if a few of them can flee the Gamecock Gulag, I'm glad we can take them in. South Carolina would be greatly served to stop hiring "name" coaches and hire a guy still trying to make a name.

Be careful what you say/wish for. I happen to know a coach who fits that description. :)

I just realized what the best part of this whole Beecher transferring thing is:

He can play quarterback for us against the law school next year in the football game. We just need to schedule it after football season.
