Can we tone down the Liberty Journal alerts massively? I dont want to lose the sports scores, but over the last 3 days, ive received a good 150 texts of the Liberty Journal alerts, some of which are repeats. I do not give a crap that the victorian society is meeting, or that liberty student tutors godparent home girls. Yes, great things, but if I wanted to read about them, id go to the website.

It would be nice to just have LU sports being sent to my phone, though it is nice to have the big announcements liberty makes, like when the lake was donated. I just dont want 50 text messages in the middle of Prayer class telling me about the foreign exchange students learn to take showers as part of a new CSER initiative

hmm... im thinking you should get some sort of remuneration for the twitter acct if you give it up. esp. b/c you already registered it AND wrote the script to run LU sports scores, etc... (do cyber-squatting laws apply?)

i certainly don't think you should give it up for free. i mean, at least tickets or something would be nice. its one thing to create something for LU fans because you are simply wanting an easy way to track your school's scores. its quite another after you've done the work to set it up when a for profit comes in and goes, hey, we want control of it. should you just give the thing up without getting anything back? me thinks not.

IMO lifetime tickets to sporting events would be fair. it costs them nothing, it compensates you for your interest in the athletic dept with something that you will thoroughly enjoy while further supporting the athletic dept.

Cyber squatting would not apply unless he contacted them trying to sell it to them. I know b/c I've been threatened suit several times on these causes and every time I was in the right....my biggest case was with Jason Castro and www.jasoncastromusic.com...nothing made me more angry then a lawyer trying to bully you saying your breaking the law when you know you arent and in the end they end up paying $$$ for it


Twitter is a little different, they do have the right to take the name if they feel you are not the person...I've seen EV (the creator) do that several times

my point was that he wasn't name squatting just to make a buck. rather, that he was doing it b/c he was a fan and had already put in a bunch of work to make it functional and to get the desired content that he wanted. now he's A. going to have someone changing the content B. not getting a return for his work C. possibly not getting the information that he wanted when he started it in the first place.

so yes, i think he should get SOMETHING from the athletic dept for it. (and honestly, shouldn't they have had the idea in the first place? not just hopped on board someone else's idea after it was already up and running?

nope, haven't yet. a developer in IT contacted me a couple of weeks ago about it, but said that he would follow up last week. Haven't heard back from him yet. it gets kinda tricky since I work for the university too.
