Go ahead, chew me out.
Are you kidding? We were overdue to lose people. Keeping the exact same staff for three years at a winning program is nearly unheard of.

I just talked to some guys on the team and they said that we are picking up the UVA defensive line coach - in other words, they seem to be switching places.

Anybody heard anything on that?

Rocco said he hopes to have the full staff together and announced by Feb. 16.

The one PLUS to coming out of is that Coach Rocco is showing his assistants leave for bigger and better...and that is going to indicate that LU is a place for an up-an-coming talented assistant to go and be developed.

I could see our QB's coach moving up...I have talked to some who feel he's ready...does LCA have anyone that could fill that position if it indeed opens up? I know it's wishful thinking but boy how great that would be

If Street gets the OC position, he'll still be the quarterbacks coach. It's just like Wach coached the offensive line. He may be the coordinator, but he's still a position coach.

Yeah, for a first year guy to be a OC though I still wouldnt mind getting someone else in there to take some of the work load off of him...not saying it has to be rocco it could be someone younger or whatever but I wouldnt mind seeing that work load as small as possible for his first year...Wach's been around and him tackling both isnt the same as a younger guy who's still getting adjusted

Which would leave openings at O-line, D-line, linebackers and special teams.

You have to remember the FCS programs are only allowed ten coaches.

Theoretically, yes you could do have him as only an OC, but then you lose an EXTREMELY valuable asset in him as quarterbacks coach. He was already passing game coordinator so stepping up and taking over the entire offense wouldn't be too much of a struggle. He is the son of a coach. He was a three-time academic honor roll member in the ACC. He's also coached running backs before so the run-game is not new to him. Street may be young, but I don't think he needs any type of grace period.

If you've got a new kid running the offense, which we will, wouldn't you think it was beneficial for the guy running the offense to be their main teacher and main positional coach?

Remember that special teams is usually covered by a positional coach or the head coach at some places (see: Coastal Carolina).

Haven't seen this posted anywhere but it's a great write up on Wach joining the Redskins staff but lots of love given out to LU. Even the picture of Wach is a great one ~ specifically the cap he's wearing showing our logo and all :)

I think in sports we generally underestimate the value in assistant coaches, particularly in football, and continuity.

Congrats to Chad. he is certainly deserving. as others said the UVA coach is ex-assistant Levern Belin who was fired in the assistant coach shake-up at UVA recently.

For Virginia head football coach Al Groh, one of the major selling points for new defensive-line coach Chad Wilt is that "he's spent five years in our system."

Quick resume comparison says that Belin has been in the same program as Rocco three times prior. Played at Wake Forest when Rocco was D-Line coach there -- which means it's likely that Rocco had a hand in recruiting him -- , GA'ed at Boston College when Rocco was DL and was D-Line coach himself at UVa in '05. Additionally, Belin worked at W&M from '01-'03, the same years that Tom Clark was Defensive Coordinator there.

In one sense, it seems fortunate for us that UVa fired him since it looks like he's the perfect person to step into Wilt's sizeable shoes.
