would call that game both the HIGH and the LOW point of the Karcher era--had LU lost that game, I would be willing to speculate Karcher would have NEVER gotten the contract renewal. Of course, would we have gotten Rocco at that point in time
Stevev wrote:IThe Hofstra story is more or less true. After the ETSU game which dropped us to 2-6, the decision was made by Falwell and Borek that Karcher was done at season's end. Kim Graham was in that meeting and asked the question, "What do we do if they win out?" Borek replied with, "Well, that won't happen." The higher-ups were completely unprepared for the team finishing 6-6 and couldn't fire a guy who had just given them their first 6 win season since '97. Still, the extension didn't come until a year later after the team had finished 6-5 and the prior contract was set to expire.would call that game both the HIGH and the LOW point of the Karcher era--had LU lost that game, I would be willing to speculate Karcher would have NEVER gotten the contract renewal. It was rumored about a year ago that the Hofstra game was a make or break for K Karcher and we won in OT. If Hofstra would have won rumor had it that Karcher was to be fired. Of course if we would had lost to VMI the Hofstra game wouldn't matter. Karcher would have been gone anyway.

The rumors about either or both of them coming started flying thick and fast after the '04 season (we were 6-5) but that was also after Karcher had the extension so, no matter how much JF may have wanted Holtz, LU would have had to eat a lot of change to get him.
Stevev wrote:I think that you are right about that but only time will tell.Chuck South is inevitable as we're in their conference. As for the other teams, I think those will be gone after this season. I think it will start with scheduling middle of the pack SoCon and CAA teams and then once we start to compete with them, moving up to the upper level of those conference.
My only concern is future scheduling. If we continue to put the Savannah States, Chuck South's, Glenville's. and the St Paul's on the schedule we won't be getting much credibility over the years but the discussions in the past have hinted on improvements to scheduling.

Like SJ said, Chuck South is unavoidable but, even if they weren't, that program has made some dramatic improvements in a very short time. They may have gotten demolished by VMI last year and have even weaker schedule lined up for this season, but they did beat us, they destroyed G-Webb and they pulled out a miracle 4th quarter to beat Coastal for the conference championship. They're doing something right down there and it may not be very much longer before I-AA has to take them seriously every week.

These guys need to know how to at least win something. I think that with success this year that quality games will follow
