When Obama said "we are on the mat and we need someone to pick them up"

Their response: I have a home I can afford and make the payments on, I am able to pay my bills, I adjust my living to meet my income...these problems of people "who are on the mat" are ones that got in over their head's, got a house they couldnt afford and living lives they cant back up. These are you problems, not me problems, so dont come to me to help you with decisions you've made and I wont come to you if I was to decide to start living a life that I cannot feasibly live.
Well that's a traditional conservative viewpoint, but why are people so upset right now? We talked on here months ago about Bush bailing out people with bad mortgages. This isn't anything new. I just don't understand why the sky is falling all of a sudden.

In fact, the only things that Obama has changed so far are all things that I agree with. Everything he did today (that I'm aware of) I was in full agreement with. When he does something worth being upset over I'll speak up, but I just haven't seen it yet.
Really? You agree with this: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/22/us/po ... .html?_r=1
(Closing Gitmo and CIA prisons)

and this: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld ... ?track=rss
(Suspending all war trials for terrorists)

and this: http://www.courant.com/news/politics/hc ... ?track=rss
(Stopping Bush's late policy of protecting pro-life medical staff)

Really?

yes. the system in place was terrible and needed to be changed. they will change the trial procedures and also get the trials over with sooner which has been my big beef with the bush administration. a guy at our church was stationed there and he said these people had no due process....some he was sure were innocent, yet they still hadn't had their day in court. ridiculous.

and the 3rd thing you posted he hasn't done yet.

The third one has already been suspended for review, you know what that means. And what is the purpose of closing the prison at Guantanamo? I don't have too many problems with the process they've used for the detainees. I could see if someone's innocent, but I don't see how your buddy could be sure some were innocent, unless he was an interrogator or something of the sort. These guys were captured for a reason.

Since October 7, 2001, when the current war in Afghanistan began, 775 detainees have been brought to Guantánamo. Of these, approximately 420 have been released without charge. Many detainees were held without due process for years. As of May 2008, approximately 270 detainees remain. More than a fifth were cleared for release a year ago but must nevertheless remain indefinitely because countries are reluctant to accept them.

this is efficient for you?

The Pentagon said on Tuesday that 61 former detainees from its military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said 18 former detainees are confirmed as "returning to the fight" and 43 are suspected of having done in a report issued late in December by the Defense Intelligence Agency.

No, it's not all that efficient.

So you can make the number seem like less by changing it into a percentage. Bravo. Even if it was 1 dude, I'd still be questioning why he was released. Foreign combatants =/= U.S. citizen in jail. Although if you bring them here, it's gonna mean the same thing.

ZOMG!!! OBAMA SAYS "THERE IS NO GOD"!!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 85_pf.html
"Are you ready to take the oath?" Roberts asked.

"I am, and we're going to do it very slowly," Obama replied.

After a flawless recitation that included no Bible and took 25 seconds, Roberts smiled and said, "Congratulations, again."

The inauguration is well behind us now. So it is time to let this thread die.
